Okay, ready? Who is this guy?
SPEAKER_04Oh wait, I'm not recording.
SPEAKER_02Just kidding. Welcome back to the Hot Ashes Podcast. I'm Lee. TK. Oh man, have we got a show for you? There's some excitement in the house. We got a welcome back to do. Uh oh, Penny, I feel like I should have asked if you need anything before we started, but alright. I am smoking a Georgia's box press torpedo. I've been smoking it a while. I'll smoke something different soon. And uh I am drinking a pernie haze. I know last time I said I went back to the OG and was drinking pernicious, but this time, this is what I have in the fridge.
SPEAKER_04So he shifted gears back down. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02What you got, TK?
SPEAKER_04Smoking one of my favorite cigars, Herrera Esteli by Drew Estate. Actually, my favorite is the Miami, but I can't find those anywhere. And I might have heard that they may have discontinued that one. I'm not sure. But this is kind of the same. It's good. The Miami is like spicier, just a hair spicier. And I'm drinking. There it is. Straight Heineken baby. That's it. Let's go.
SPEAKER_03Negative. It does not say gallon size there. Right.
SPEAKER_04This is the adult size. That's it. That's it. Or fun size, however you want to look at it. But yeah, good. We'll see how it pairs up. I'm gonna force it even if it doesn't.
SPEAKER_02Let's see who we got on microphone three.
SPEAKER_00Hey there, Ahmed. I'm smoking a leather rose, something normal. And I'm drinking a Yangling.
SPEAKER_02All right. And who the hell do we have on Mike for? Welcome back.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's good to be back. Good to be back. So returning guests from uh episode five. So we can uh Was that the last time you were on? Episode five, man. Yeah. So uh I'm I'm that guy that had the speeding ticket, which I got an update on that one while while I was gone too. So we'll be sure to break that down. But uh for for me to smoke, we're gonna do we're gonna do a little unboxing here for the uh the podcast. Let's do it. Very nice. This is something that uh I'm gonna work with George and see if we can't get this onto the uh onto the shelves right here. This is the Perdomo Legacy uh Nicaraguan Maduro uh Epicure. So let's see if we can't. Yeah.
unknownAll right.
SPEAKER_03Look at that. That's a beautiful box right there. That is a beautiful box. Yeah, so uh before I pop that up in here, just so I didn't do any studying on this one. I try to try to stay up on the cigar knowledge, but this one was uh last minute. Uh I was at JR Cigars up there in Burlington, and they had some really good deals on some uh cigars and spent way too much money. But uh for for for those of you guys want to get a lot of things like that. Yeah, I guess I get you. Oh yeah, and then you know, if you buy a box, they they usually do it pretty good. But um your Perdomo Legacy right there, it's a uh 10-year-age Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper complemented by a Nicaraguan shade grown binder and uh premium Nicaraguan filler. So this is from the uh Perdomo's uh their family farm in Estelle, Nicaragua, uh the famed Jalapa Valley. So different the valleys there have a little bit different flavors, but Perdomo right there is just a solid go-to. That's sweet. Yeah, so this is uh the beautiful honey colored Ecuadorian Connecticut wrappers undergo uh bourbon uh barrel aging for a minimum of eight months, uh ensuring a uh smooth, creamy, medium body profile with a subtle hint of uh spices on the finish. So that's what we're gonna do. And then if you guys remember back to episode five, I brought out the E. H. Taylor small bats. Yeah, we had a we had a good time there. So I um you can do this little mix, it's called Poor Man's Pappy, and you can take your Weller 12 year and mix it with Antique 107. It's supposed to mimic the uh flavor profile of your uh Pappy Van Winkle 15 year. So there's a little bit left. I'm sure everyone's gonna enjoy this, but we'll get this. You had me at poor well deserved. You had me at poor. You know, just get this going here.
SPEAKER_02Well it isn't that that's not the bottle that you gave that uh that guy on the street.
SPEAKER_03It was uh it was Weller special reserve, is what I gave though. So I got another funny story uh about that. It's uh thank you bingo's trying this. Uh for you. He said no. Okay, yeah. So 12.
SPEAKER_02Cheers, guys. Yeah, good to have you back. Good to have you back. Absolutely. Keep bringing stuff like this, we'll have you on the man. I tell you. That's not as hot as I thought it was gonna be. No, that's some smooth stuff right there. Yeah, that's nowhere near as hot as wellers one one other time, and that's when John was doing his uh birthday party here. Yeah. Because I'm, you know, I'm not it's I was like, I don't really know much about the Denite Taste.
SPEAKER_03I was like, ooh, North Carolina's ABC uh state, so it's it's very hard to come by, but right. If you ever do see it on the shelf, you know, make sure to grab it. Uh but if anyone knows anything about Pappy Van Winkle, that's the same same mash bill you get. It's just aged uh longer and at different locations than a Rick House, which will give you a different uh flavor profile.
SPEAKER_04So I think we were kind of touching.
SPEAKER_02We were discussing. You guys are gonna be tying your dicks together soon, I swear.
SPEAKER_04It's just a blessing to have that much length, honestly.
SPEAKER_03Oh man. Do you want to try that one? All right. So we'll I don't want to deplete your box, man. No, that's that's what it's for. Uh but wait wait till the next episode. We we got a surprise. We're not gonna ruin the surprise, but the next episode, trust me, you guys want to see that one. Come in real for the next episode.
SPEAKER_02Episode. That'll be 35. Wait, this is 34, right? Yeah. 35. Damn. Yeah. So the next episode will be 30 episodes after your first appearance. Right? That'd be cool.
SPEAKER_04Which it seems like it wasn't that long, but at the same time, it does feel like that it was that long, if it makes sense. It doesn't seem like that long for us.
SPEAKER_02It didn't felt that long to you. Yeah, you should have heard the yeah.
SPEAKER_03So episode five, like, I uh sorry about that. Um not a sorry. We didn't get really, yeah, no, sorry to go. We didn't get into it. So, like, yeah, in episode five, I talked about like I did nine years in the Marine Corps, and now recently I I work as a civilian contractor and I work overseas uh in the Middle East. So the reason why you know you just hear my name on the episode is well, I was stuck over doing stuff.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we were stuck over actually doing stuff, yeah. And you were you were hitting us with updates, you know, as much as you could with you know, within you know obseccability.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, uh community guidelines, if you will. Exactly. So yeah, I was uh I was stuck over there for a while.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so whenever I turned the corner to walk in, I was like, oh my god.
SPEAKER_03Right, right. I was like, let's go. I did the best of you know I could.
SPEAKER_04It's just like for the uh like for your return, was that just like is that a moment's notice? They're like, all right, you're good. We don't need you anymore, you're good to go, blah, blah, blah. Or is it like you have a set exit time? But I because I know stuff got hairy, the whole world knows that, and that throws a wrench and everything. So, how does that work? No, that was a massive monkey wrench.
SPEAKER_03Exactly. Uh I was three days away from coming home. Three days coming home. That's like I had a I had a business class ticket that was gonna take me, you know, from Dubai. Yeah, I'm flying through Dubai on an Emirates plane. If anyone knows anything about Emirates Airlines, their business class is where it's at. Um but yeah, I had that that ticket, and then you know, the the conflict there kind of kicked off. Exactly.
SPEAKER_04It's such like come on, y'all couldn't have waited a week.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and then he and then he's in the and then report he flew to in the cargo bay of some freaking military.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, some some people unfortunately had that uh that uh opportunity for him to sit inside of a military cargo plane to get out of there.
SPEAKER_04But yeah, so we see your business class ticket and we raise you shit space A.
SPEAKER_03Not even in Space A, man. No, no. I mean, the only thing available is floor seating, so and it's not a concert. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00At least you weren't playing spirit. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Well, you can't now. No, no, man. You know, a lot of people were upset about spirit going down. I'm like, who have you not flown spirit or been around a spirit?
SPEAKER_02I have flown spirit. The Greyhound of the Airlines. I don't care about anything. Like, I'm like, if what's the cheapest ticket to get to here or to there?
SPEAKER_04See, that's where I'm at. I'm like, man, y'all just took a y'all just cost me money by going out of business.
SPEAKER_00But they had a you know, I don't know if you know, but they had a fantastic safety rating. They never nobody had a death. No, ever.
SPEAKER_04And I think it was what 25 years or 30 years. 30 something. Don't act like you would don't act like you would fly spirit.
SPEAKER_00Uh no, I wouldn't. Okay.
SPEAKER_03So I'm a snob, so what they do for safety, they definitely don't make up in the fights that happen in the terminal.
SPEAKER_02So there was a woman that got kicked off our plane. I was at Frontier though, or was that Spirit? It might have been Spirit. She was all reeked of weed, and she started I told the story. She started a big thing in front of with everybody. Yeah. Got arrested. We we were taxing out, they stopped, sheriff came on, she got arrested. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So I had a similar situation leaving uh the Middle East, going to Dubai. There was uh two folks from a different country that uh somehow managed to get alcohol. Uh the country that we're in is not very friendly to alcohol. It's it's kind of quite anti- Yeah. So somehow these guys got alcohol onto the plane and they decided to start a like club fly Dubai. All right, they have their phone, they're like blaring music, uh dancing and stuff in their seat, and then people were like, What are you doing? What's going on? Come on. Like, what is this? So people start making complaints, and then they're like they're trying to tell them to calm down, like, relax. You're gonna go to Dubai, you can do that stuff there.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we understand you're excited. Cool, cool, cool.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, no, these guys got obnoxious and uh it it escalated to the point where you know they're they're asking these guys for their boarding pass so they can, you know, handle it that way. And he's so drunk that well, both of them are so drunk they're like, no, we're not gonna give it to you.
SPEAKER_04And he's trying to like now they're posing a problem now.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, so I'm sitting right beside him, and I'm keeping a close eye because now he's starting to get a little more violent. Uh I had a flight attendant right in front of me, and I was like, hey, do you mind just like stepping back here just in case that gets a little violent? And there's a bunch of Americans on this flight, and you know, knowing what we do, protecting that lady is exactly what we're gonna do. Right. She's like, I need to see your boarding pass, and then he grabs her hand, and I immediately just pop out of the seat, and like two other American dudes stood up, and then they like looked around, they're like, All right, we're gonna calm down.
SPEAKER_04I'm just joking. Yeah, I'm just testing you guys.
SPEAKER_03This is a training. Yeah, so they they calm down and they're like, okay, we're just gonna have you know Dubai police come onto the plane as soon as we land. And he's sitting here trying to negotiate his way out of that. Yeah, you're not doing that. Bro, it's too late now. Too late. And if there's one thing you should know about Dubai and public intox, not gonna happen. They they do not tolerate that at all. So as soon as we land, uh it's really frustrating because now it added 30 minutes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because oh yeah, and that all those incidents always do. That lady that got kicked off, it's like, yeah, it's entertaining. But we want to get where we're going, and we were gonna be early. Now we're gonna be late.
SPEAKER_04Now you gotta sprint from concourse E to Concourse A at Charlotte because you had this whole get down and you might miss your flight.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So I'm there and I was expecting like just get off the plane. I have uh booked a hotel. If any of you guys ever travel to Dubai, it's called uh the five, it's on the Palm Jumaria. It's like a five-star hour hotel. Man, it is awesome. It's a great restaurant, they have a full spa there. Like, I was ready to have a nice massage drink, top like T. And well deserved. Well deserved, yeah. You know, yeah, of course. No, no, that that right there, like for you. Yeah, push my timeline back. By the time I went there to go to the spa and like book everything, they're like, nah, we we just filled up. I'm like, oh man, yeah. So I ended up going to uh La Casa del Hobano, so that's a uh Cuban uh like lounge and stuff like that. So I went in there, uh, bought me a nice Cohiba Maduro number five, and sat there with a uh cup of chai. The chai wasn't like it wasn't so great. Yeah, so I told a guy I was like, I don't know, man. This is not normal chai that I'm drinking, you know, at the last place I was at. And he goes, Oh, if you want to change it out, I'll change it. I'm like, all right, I'll just try it. It's English breakfast tea. So I'm gonna go. Yeah, yeah. So I'm trying to drink it and it's just not pairing well with that cigar. And I was like, all right, you know what? Let's just do the old school. If you want something to pair with a cigar, that too. It's more it's breakfast. Yeah. So I switched to uh a nice coffee and man, let me tell you, that that cigar with a coffee, top notch. Yeah, top notch.
SPEAKER_02We had to do an early show here a couple we've done like one or two early shows where we're drinking coffee.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And we were like, man, what the hell cigar am I gonna drink? For the first hour. Prepare for this, you know? And uh I think we ended up with Java because you know I like drinking coffee with cigars.
SPEAKER_04But I'm also rarely ever smoking cigars at that time of the day. Unless you're playing golf. I exactly when George I'm not drinking coffee because I'm like, you know, you're playing golf. Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_02But if you're going out with Georgia to play golf, you're you're smoking a cigar too.
SPEAKER_03And you're you're getting up early. So for me, like I'll I'll put uh you know a coffee in my little Yeti cup. Yeah, you know what I mean? Stays warm. Yeah, it stays warm, does it?
SPEAKER_05I don't know.
SPEAKER_02No, it gets it gets warmer. He's talking about the Yeti cookie. It gets warmer, actually.
SPEAKER_04It's a self-heating device, I guess. Oh, you're trying to backpedal and go the other route. Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_02Like, I guess he's trying to win those fans back.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's some sort of electronic device in there that just makes your drink warmer, I guess.
SPEAKER_03I'm telling you, sitting there reading the comments and seeing that. Oh yeah. Yeah, I was laughing. I was like, he was pressed on that.
SPEAKER_02He was he was like, dude, they're they're they're tearing me up.
SPEAKER_04He hadn't seen it yet, and I was like, bro, this TikTok is insane. And he's like, What are you talking about? I'm like, bro, what do you mean? Go over to the last thing you just posted. There's like freaking 240.
SPEAKER_02Because I don't even realize because I'm posting them. I'll post our short and it'll go to TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram.
SPEAKER_04I don't go then to the distribution to all of them at the same time.
SPEAKER_02I pretty much just go look at YouTube shorts and see how the views are doing and stuff.
SPEAKER_04Uh we need to sign into the individual accounts because there might be some crazy ass TS.
SPEAKER_02I try to go through the the uh comments as much as I can, but it's like for the trolls, I love it because I can just be like, well, but you stop and made a comment. Thank you for your for the algorithm. You know, thanks for the bump up. Uh but then you know you'll get some cool comments too, and it's you know, there people what I want is like cigar comments, liquor, like drink, whatever like what do you like as a cigar? If we're talking about a certain cigar and we say we like it and you don't like it, what do you not like about it? Like Gurkha. People love Gurkha, but we don't like Gurkha around here anymore. Yeah, no, you know, everybody's taste profile is their rapper pops off. And yeah, but I used to love Gurkha 20 years ago.
SPEAKER_03They get trashed now. They will give it to not to everybody, not to every not by everybody. Perdomo is uh is top notch. And then so for those of you that listen, you know, I don't I'm not sure what episode it was, but George's family has a farm that's right beside Perdomo's uh farm in Jalapa. Nicaragua. Yeah, yeah. So and in fact, like I I was like, what is that?
SPEAKER_02So there's a child screaming in the background. You'll hear it every time one of us speaks. We can't hardly hear it because we're wearing these. But uh yeah, there is definitely a kid screaming over there.
SPEAKER_03Someone's not having fun. Yeah. So uh I was invited down to Nicaragua by uh George's brother, and he's like, hey, if you ever want to come to Nicaragua, you know, you can come down there, we'll tour the factory, and then we can even uh you know make a phone call over to Nicholas Perdomo and get you into his factory and see that. So I'm holding off and we'll get a little trip out there.
SPEAKER_02I do remember y'all talking about that. You want to go down there.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Is that Aussie?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. Yeah, Elias is not in the cigar right now. Which is weird because the other two are so you think. Yeah. I'd be competing, dude. I'd be like, all right, how's your cigar show?
SPEAKER_04I'm gonna make mine better.
SPEAKER_02You know, yeah, yeah. Damn. So so you originally were gone for what four months, right? Or three or four?
SPEAKER_03So it was supposed to be four months. And it turned into seven.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03You know, as we're sitting over there in in the line of business, we are like you're you're watching the political climate, and we all had this this idea of that something was gonna happen. You just don't move that much resources into that area, and something just doesn't happen. Right. So I'm I'm just watching my cards. So you just see the foreshadowing happening.
SPEAKER_00It's like I'm not going home, is what he's thinking.
SPEAKER_02I'm not watching the next episode of this because I know where it's going.
SPEAKER_00I hope I can get a refund on my ticket.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, dude.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and then that's what you start wondering about. So that uh the ticket was like it was uh an award that was given to me. We have a workout program, you know, to to take care of the the guys and everything else. And I was the lucky winner for December to take this flight. I was excited. I was excited, I'm telling you. Um, but yeah, like you said, you just watch the political climate, you see what's what's coming into the area. And yeah, we all had our fingers crossed that like nothing would happen, but it it went a little south real quick.
SPEAKER_02Majorly.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and and we were also, you know, we always talk about our group chat here, so we're always, you know, how you doing? And you would give us updates, what you can tell us, because it obviously you can't tell us everything, but it's like, man, when are you coming home, dude? Like, I don't know, the maybe, and then we're watching the news here, and we're like, is anybody talking to go today? It's it was a I know you thought it was stressful for you, but you don't know what you're definitely stressful for us. You don't know what you put us through, okay? Yeah.
SPEAKER_03My deepest apologies for that, too. Thanks a lot. Yeah, thanks a lot.
SPEAKER_02Nah, it's good to have you back, man. It really is for sure, for sure.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, because I mean you would go through periods like one day it would be a little crazy and everything else, and then you would get a day or two where it was, you know, decent. Uh, and that's when I would usually, you know, give you guys the updates. But right, you know, the the stuff that I would send you was, you know, straight from all these other Instagram pages, and like, okay, well, you guys are probably already seeing this.
SPEAKER_02Well, well, the other thing too is is that you and I speak in memes, so yeah, mostly it's it's always funny crap that we're sending back to each other. So I'm like, he's fine. He he's he just sent me three funny ass videos earlier. He's cool, he's good.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. You know, we try to keep up on the memes and everything else just to try to lighten the mood, I'm telling you.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I'm sure.
SPEAKER_03So like my cigar circle over there, one, we ran out of cigars. Like, you know, the mail had stopped, all the all the flights and airspace had closed, so you're not getting any mail. So we're we're just pinching our last little cigars, but we're out there and we have to wear you know full gear and everything, and we're just zombies. Like not sleeping, like going through it. Yeah, just going through it. But uh then the uh there's a shop that had actually opened up just outside of our of our spot. And man, what a lifesaver that was. Because over there you can you can buy Cubans and they also have a good selection of everything else. So another cigar that I'll put you guys on, which uh we don't have yet or haven't had in a while, is the Rocky Patel 60. So it's the best thing that you can get closest to George's. Obviously, you're gonna pay more because it's a name brand, but it has it has your Mexican San Andreas wrapper with your Nicaraguan binder and filler. So when I when I saw them post it on their Instagram page and they were able to deliver it to us, oh man. I bought like 10 of them and you're like, I'm in there. I'm in. So it was a taste of home.
SPEAKER_02It compares to George's? Yeah, very close. Comparable. Yeah, yeah. That's my favorite.
SPEAKER_03But yeah, it was like a taste of home. I was like, all right. And I got it, like I got it about like a week and a half before I came home, and I was like, all right, there it is.
SPEAKER_02And how long had it been since you'd smoked a cigar?
SPEAKER_03Well, I mean, we had like a few left. Yeah, um sparingly. Yeah, exactly. You had to ration them out, you know, because I had I had like a little pelican case that was full of it and everything else. Oh man.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so we were cigars, I think that still sucks. But when I was in Djibouti in 07, we ran out of dip on the whole base and everybody dipped. So like we were going crazy, dude. Like, it wasn't like well, I don't have a cigar. I'm all right, well, I guess I'll smoke one in a week. No, I want some dip now. There were dudes that were like re-dipping their crap. Oh, that's so nasty. Psycho. That's disgusting, dude.
SPEAKER_03Another thing is saving these guys a dip is these zen pouches.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, a lot of people are doing those.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and then you can you can stretch those things. Like, I've seen people redip those. I I would never do it. I've never done that. I went nine.
SPEAKER_04I zen and I know. I'm just gonna, I mean, obviously I have to do that. Does that have like nicotine in it? That's all it is, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Just like a little pouch.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Cody was doing those, but then he's doing a nicotine free one now. So I'm like, so you basically just have like a pack of something, just caffeine usually.
SPEAKER_03Okay, yeah. You do the you do the upper deckies? 100%.
SPEAKER_04Dude, not on the regular, but like if I like because I'll I'll put a dip in. Like if somebody's like around, like if I'm on the golf course and I'm not smoking a cigar or whatever, and someone's like got a can of dip, I'd be like, I'll take a dip, I'll put a dip in.
SPEAKER_03I went I went nine years in Windcore, never picked up the tobacco habit, not smoking, dipping or anything else. It wasn't until I got out, started hanging out with Marquetti back here.
SPEAKER_02That's when you get into it.
SPEAKER_03I got into cigars. Um, I started smoking them.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03I started smoking them when I worked in Afghanistan and I Uh my first one that really put me over the edge was a Man of War Churchill. And you want a strong cigar? That one right there. That's a good kick in the chest.
SPEAKER_02I've had man of war, but I don't know if I don't think it was a churchill, but oh man.
SPEAKER_03So that that after that, I started changing it up to what I smoked and everything else. And then, you know, Andrew being being a neighbor. Dude, we just started going all crazy with it. Nice. Yeah. And now here you are. Yeah. Connoisseur level. Oh, we're trying. We're trying.
SPEAKER_00We definitely miss your cigar knowledge, you know, around the table.
SPEAKER_03I'll tell you, I I think it's just really interesting to see how these these farmers and these companies will start from the seed that is just meticulously cared for and the way it's planted and everything that's behind it. I think that's just like really interesting. Like ultimate skills, bro. Yeah. It's it's just like a craft handle.
SPEAKER_04Because I'm over here, I can't even like grow a cucumber and it's all easy to do.
SPEAKER_02And then the way that they have to hang the tobacco, and then the way that they have to deal with the bug larvae that's in there. I mean, it's in there. So they freeze it, and then you're still gonna have it in there. Yeah. You know, but people don't know that about their cigars.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and not to mention just the different leaves that you pull off of that plant are gonna give you a different flavor profile, um, different color. So, like, you know, like the the the website was saying, it was like this Ecuadorian wrapper gives it a different shade and all this stuff. Like, I think that stuff's really interesting. So I just kind of dive into that stuff.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, well it is. I think it's crazy.
SPEAKER_04See the videos of the people that are rolling them things up, like it's cool. Like that would take me two days to just get done with one and it would look real bad.
SPEAKER_03So one of our guys over there, he he started a cigar shop of his own, and he had these big Tupperware containers like this, and he had uh leaves, and he would roll them uh on his own. Yeah, he started rolling it, and I started looking at it, I was like, that's pretty cool. Not terribly hard, it's gonna take you a little while to master, but I was like, Sure, I I think I'm gonna try this. Oh, yeah, dude. Yeah, dude. So I don't know. I'm thinking about trying that. That would be pretty cool because you get to blend it. So then you take that art.
SPEAKER_02They do the blend, yeah. You got your your filler, you got your wrapper, yeah. Well, your binder.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and then just the steps on there. So yeah, you you know, whenever you take your your fillers, you know, you gotta bunch that up, and then your binder, that's gonna be a different flavor profile, that's gonna be a different leaf. You know, it's gotta have certain elasticity and everything else. You're gonna roll that thing up, and then you gotta put it in your press. That's gonna give you your shape, and then you gotta choose a really nice outer wrapper, you know, to uh to give your good presentation also a flavor profile, and then roll it up, man. And then then you got a piece of your own like uh artistic creation, if you will. Yeah. So I think that's pretty cool.
SPEAKER_04Then when you start smoking it and it starts coming apart, you only have one person to blame.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah, that's true.
SPEAKER_02Uh who did this?
SPEAKER_03Who put this out?
SPEAKER_02A wonky mild. Yeah, you know. That's what I'm saying. You gotta name it some after yourself if you made it.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_02And then you'll be your taste you'd be like, oh, there's a reason that I buy really nice cigars because they know what they're doing. This is why not everybody does this. It would still be fun to do though. That would really be cool to do. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_03And like I said, he he was sitting there, like I was watching him do it, and like it doesn't look too too terrible to learn, you know. So I don't know, we'll try it. But you I mean, you gotta do you gotta buy like the board, your cutter, I can't remember what that what that's called. But you gotta do all that, and then you go to like uh one of these shops that sells the leaves, and then you gotta come up with your own blend and then just start going to work.
SPEAKER_02Well, I and I I would imagine that there's gotta be some kind of um class you could take. You know what I mean? Let's look everything has a class, everything has something you can go and you know then learn this niche thing. Sure.
SPEAKER_04There's gotta be the key starting points.
SPEAKER_02Like we're not gonna give you the secrets, but be the right the basics, yeah.
SPEAKER_03So there is a couple places in Florida where you can go and spend a day and learn how to roll these up. I mean, they'll they'll go into all like uh wave tops, what you can do in a day or two and learning your blends, learning your leaves and everything else, because you can't just like roll up a leaf. You know, you gotta make sure that that major stem comes off of that that leaf because that major stem is gonna hold all your nicotine. And you don't want all of that in there because whenever you have that but that much nicotine in there, it's just gonna turn people off of the cigar. It's gonna make you a little more nauseous and everything else.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So I don't know.
SPEAKER_02I thought I heard something. We left the TV on in the background. So we're turning that off now.
SPEAKER_04Cruise virus spread human to human.
SPEAKER_02Corona black one, not the Roku with a black one, the red center died. Yeah, there you go. Oh, don't do that, please. Don't do that. We could always unplug it. Oh yeah. Yeah, thank you, sir. There went that background news noise. Yeah, I could kinda hear it too.
SPEAKER_00I heard it and I was like, is there a woman speaking now? He doesn't need to watch the news, he's home now.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. There's something about you being on the news, like, ah, yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Smoke to that. Well, what's the best part of being back so far? Food.
SPEAKER_03Food. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04But what are you looking the most forward to eating?
SPEAKER_03Oh so actually we can get into that. Uh so Saturday, Clemson, South Carolina. We had uh we had Wyatt Flores, Cody Johnson, and the king of country music, George Strait. Yeah. What a concert that was. Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so tell that story that you were both at that concert and didn't even we didn't even know you were back yet.
SPEAKER_03So I I you know, I got in on Thursday, you know, I was just taking some time to just kind of relax, try to get over the jet lag, which you know it's gonna take you a few days to give you get over that. For sure. But uh yeah, so as I got confirmation that I'm coming back, the flight's good, you know, planes are leaving the ground and everything else. I was like, all right, now I can book me like my experience. Because last episode I talked about last time I was home, I went to the Bourbon Trail and did some tours up there.
SPEAKER_02You know, now this is the Kentucky thing. Yeah, so that's the same thing that Roger did.
SPEAKER_03Right, exactly.
SPEAKER_00I didn't realize that was the same timeline. I didn't put those two together that though you did that right before you left, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Because I followed that on social media. I followed like your little like the journey. Oh, I didn't realize that it was coinciding with you about to piece out.
SPEAKER_02Well, I didn't know that Roger had gone to that same one when Roger was on here telling us about it.
SPEAKER_03Oh man, so Roger will see this uh before he gets on here the next time.
SPEAKER_02But he doesn't watch this show. Oh, well, he just likes being on it.
SPEAKER_03It would be good like study material like, man, look at these degenerates.
SPEAKER_02I always like to say crap about the people who are usually on it well when they're not on it. Just to actually listen to listening. See if they watch. Solange I did something funny on the last episode when she just was going on and on and on and on. And I put a funny thing in there, and I was I was like, see, here's how I know you don't watch the show. And then I showed it to her and she laughed. I was like, that's how I know you don't watch.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, when I have my downtime, I would pop it open. You know, I sit there and watch it.
SPEAKER_02But for me, like you comment more than anybody, man. So you're like our our you're a top fan on there. Yeah, of course. But now you're you know a main character on it.
SPEAKER_03I'm trying to be.
SPEAKER_02I'm trying to be.
SPEAKER_03But you know, as I'm watching it, like I'm commenting as I'm watching this. So like the comments, you actually have to watch it and then look at my comments. I know, because when I read it, I'm like, what the fuck are we talking about at that point?
SPEAKER_02We said that, and I don't know what what marker to go to.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah. So I came back home, I took some time off to just decompress and try to try to get over all that stuff, and then uh, you know, like I said, once I got confirmation I was gonna get on that plane, then I booked a uh concert uh uh you know in Clinton's.
SPEAKER_04That's what I was gonna ask you. I was like, was this something that you were like looking at your watch? Like, please don't mess this up. I already have bought this.
SPEAKER_03So here's the thing I was supposed to leave three days before everything kicked off. I had two Carolina hurricane tickets in my car. And I was like, all right, you know, I've always heard Carolina hurricanes, just like so bad. Dude, it could just be a random game and it's tight. It's gonna be awesome, right? So I had it in my cart and I was like, I can see what's about to transpire. So I was like, all right, I'm not gonna buy them. I'm just gonna wait. Yeah, deleted them out of my cart, and then obviously everything happened. So when I got confirmation I was coming home, I was like, all right, I I need to do something. The last time I did the bourbon trail, which I'm originally from Ohio, so you know it's it's along the way. So stopping at Bourbon Trail is just awesome. Another thing that you can really appreciate the craft of taking, you know, uh grain and turning it into a beautiful drink, right? Right. So I was like, all right, I need to do something, and I've never been to a concert before. What? Yeah, no, that that was my first concert. That's a straight off. You just ruined yourself. Welcome back. You know what I'm saying? So I sat there and I was like, you ruined yourself, Brad though.
SPEAKER_04Oh, yeah. You ruined yourself, dude. But what a way to do it, though. But so I'm just saying, the next one you go to might not be that good.
SPEAKER_03I know, I know. And you know, as a kid, I like I grew up listening to George Strait. A lot of us did, if you listen to country music. Uh, so I looked at it and I was like, you know, the the hockey game, the tickets that started, you know, rise and everything else. I like hockey. I'm not a diehard hockey fan, you know. But I was like, you know what? George Strait, uh, he's playing on the 15th and 16th in Austin. We have a good buddy that's retiring on the 15th. I'm not missing that. All right. I want to make sure I'm there for him for that. So I was like, all right, well, that's that's that's off the table because I'm gonna have to either do the party, retirement party, and then jump on a flight and get to Austin. So low luck would have it that he's gonna be performing in Clemson on May 2nd. Right.
SPEAKER_00I was like, all right, time is perfect, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_03So I was like, that's it. That's that's my trip. Uh, you know, take care, brother. So that right there was gonna be my trip. That was gonna be my experience for this time home. And uh, you know, I immediately drove from uh Raleigh Airport and drove down there to Clemson, set up at a at a hotel there, which was on a golf course, which we got another story about that. Uh going back to episode five, and I like to hand out you know bottles. We had another uh incident, right? Right. So I go there, I go to this uh to the concert, and I'm watching these seats. Man, the seats are pretty expensive, but I'm like, man, I I've been stuck over here for seven months. I've earned enough money. I let's bring for it. Let's splurge. You know what I mean? I'm gonna splurge. So I booked it on the 50 yard line, three rows up.
SPEAKER_02Hell yeah, dude.
SPEAKER_03You know, yeah, what an awesome seat that was.
SPEAKER_02So anyway, that's why you said you saw his face and everything like that.
SPEAKER_03You could you could watch like the whole show right there. And then even if you wanted to look up to this the Megatron there, you know, then you had a big screen experience on it.
SPEAKER_02And you didn't know he was there until you saw his post later.
SPEAKER_03No, like I said, I kept it low-key that I was in back. I was just trying to, you know, fill it all out. But uh, it wasn't until uh what was it, like Sunday you had posted. I posted the after the fact, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it was like right when we were about to start our show because I saw it was a one minute. I was like, Oh, there's a post finally, and I I I liked it. Yeah, and then you tell me you're there. I'm like, you mother.
SPEAKER_03I saw that. I was like, I was like, oh man, Taylor's here too. But I didn't know that you had actually stayed an extra day. So but I was I was up in Greenville at an airport or at a hotel there.
SPEAKER_04I gotcha, yeah, because we actually stayed in Clemson. My buddy that I went with actually had family friends that were going to the show. Dude, check this out. We went down there because we he bought me he bought the tickets for the show the day before my wedding. Because he was in my wedding. Okay, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Because I remembered his face in the wedding. I didn't, I don't, I didn't get to meet him, but I I remembered him from the wedding.
SPEAKER_04That's the dude that went Ms.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, just got to be.
SPEAKER_03Speaking of which, congratulations. Sorry I couldn't make that. No, no worries. It was awesome, dude. It was a good time. It was great, man. It was a great wedding.
SPEAKER_02I was there and watched him balling and all that stuff. Yeah. Nah, it was it was totally cool. Shorty ugly cried. The ugly cried, dude. No, it was good.
SPEAKER_04So we were going to get like, so my gift to my groomsman, besides my great friendship, was I wanted everybody to have their own individual pair of dress socks. Well, I waited until the last second when everybody came into town, so we could all go to like Belk or wherever to get them, you know. Just uh all right, you guys pick a pair of funky dress socks. We can all just have our own individual. We're all wearing the same suit, but we can customize it in our own way to have your own socks.
SPEAKER_02I have perfect socks. I should have if you if you would have told me that I would have given you these socks to wear. They're the perfect socks. I can't tell you about them, I'll wear them on the show next next time. All right, all right. Don't worry about it. They're perfect.
SPEAKER_04Okay, all right. So we're going to Belic and Moorhead City or whatever, and he is like, Man, I know what I'm getting you for your wedding. And I was at what? He's like, What are you doing next weekend? I was like, Well, brother, I got a lot going on right now. I I don't I don't know what's going on tomorrow. I'm about to get married. This is that next weekend's not really on my radar. But I'm living in the moment right now. Let me look real quick while we're in the truck riding, and I was like, It looks like nothing. He's like, Well, I just bought the tickets to George Strait, blah, blah, blah, blah. Nice, dude. He was like, You're going. And I was like, I'm going, yeah, I'm going. I texted, you know, the future wife at that point in time. I was like, I'm going to George Strait next week. And she said, have fun. I was like, knew I loved you. And that's that's why you put a ring on it.
SPEAKER_02She said, Well, she said that because she was the future wife at the time. You think she's gonna say that now? No. The ship sailed, don't don't ruin this for me, Lee. So it's been two weeks since you've had sex, huh?
SPEAKER_04Funny story, not about that. Community guidelines. All right. So we got like we went to the payout the day before that went like that uh Friday. MacDaddy's Thursday Night League payout. And a couple of buddies that I used to play at Cherry Point with, you know, they've met Nicole. They've known me and Nicole have been together for 10 years. So coming and going playing golf, they've met her. Whether it's like picking me up from the golf course when I've had too many beers, or us just actually being friends and meeting at hangouts and stuff like that, they know who Nicole is. So we left the payout at MacDaddy's and we told a few of the guys that bowl that golf that I knew. We were like, come over to the house, because it's like the celebration is now starting. You know what I mean? Thursday night into Friday into Saturday. It's like, come on over.
SPEAKER_02End to Sunday, into Monday, into two. Don't act like it stopped after the wedding.
SPEAKER_04It's a week longer than it's still going on. Love it, love it. And this guy, shout out to my boy Joe. I'm not gonna blast his last name, but he's an older guy, older Italian guy, and he said, Yo, TK. He's like, Uh, you coming out to play golf tomorrow? Which that would be the Friday before my wedding. And I was like, Man, I I got rehearsal, like I got people coming into town again.
SPEAKER_00And I'm never you thought about it though, didn't you?
SPEAKER_04I did, and I'll never forget what he said. He we were like, I don't know. We had a lot of beer in us when he said this, which making it even funnier. He was like, Well, I guess I'll never see you again.
SPEAKER_01He just said it so serious.
SPEAKER_04He's like, Well, I guess I'll never see you again.
SPEAKER_02Those of us who know, no.
SPEAKER_04I just thought that was funny. It's not gonna be funny when I if I ever feel like it's true, but right now it's funny.
SPEAKER_02It is funny in the first in the newlywed phase 12 years or something.
SPEAKER_03So whenever whenever you're when you posted that, I was thinking that you had like from work, you had some like special passes and everything.
SPEAKER_04No, man, it was just a straight up gift. Oh man, that's it. And and where we were well, I did ask my job, I was like, Can you do anything as far as radio room and like you know getting doing anything cool? And my boss was like, dude, it's George Strait. No, like no, I can't do anything for that.
SPEAKER_03Like well, let's not pretend you don't have some like top-notch interviews under your belt, though.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, dude, like you interviewed like Elvis and stuff, haven't you? Or somebody really famous. That's what they said their name was? Somebody really famous. No, Tim McGraw.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, but I mean, dude, even still though Jelly Roll. So COVID like killed the like go behind the backstage and like meet the people and do all that. Like, they kind of did away from that. COVID killed a lot of things because they've seen it as an easier way to just like all right, well, we'll just facilitate it through phone calls and zoom calls and you know what I mean, and just yeah, that that kind of thing. Yeah. But I mean, dude, great show. And I my boy couldn't have picked a better spot because you know, like, if you are you a college football fan at all? No. Well, Clemson, what they do is they have this grass hill like on the back of the on the back side of the stadium or whatever, and the team they all stand up, they form up in like a square basically on this grass hill. Whenever like they that's instead of them coming out of the tunnel, they come down the hill.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, I got you. I like watching uh college football because they try shit that they won't try in the NFL. You know, like they're they're trying to get into the NFL, so they try harder. I like that about college football. They wild crazy play. I know that you watch the hell out of college football. I just don't have a team because you know, like Virginia Tech is where some of my family members went to, and like they're not great, you know.
SPEAKER_03But you know, the the run down the hill in Clemson is one of the more iconic, you know, uh that's like a thing. Yeah, for sure. So I had saw those tickets, but I was like, man, you're you're gonna be sitting on the incline, like button.
SPEAKER_04So we got there early enough, and like, mind you, like we were saying off camera, like we got to get up to the front where at the very bottom of it it starts to flatten out. We weren't because I was dude, I was in cowboy boots and we weren't at the front at first, and I was like, I can't stand like this on the no man.
SPEAKER_02No, it's it's that's why you don't wear cowboy boots to a pizza.
SPEAKER_04I I just it just didn't click in my head. You know, I've never I've seen the hill, but I've never it it's a damn hill. Oh, yeah, it's every bit of a hill. Big ass incline. It was like 45. Well, when we had to go down it, it was like you better tread softly or you're gonna bust your ass. Because you know how cowboy boots are zero tread. Were you out there whenever it started raining, though?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it rained before. So here's the thing. So Amy was like, hey, uh, there's a little bit of rain in the forecast. We should we should stop somewhere away from the stadium and see about ponchos. I'm like, I knew you were gonna say ponchos. Yeah, I'm like, all right, uh, whatever, you know. No, that poncho came in clutch because you know, you could tell like that temperature dropped. Like uh when George came in.
SPEAKER_02Oh, so you would just wear it just because it was warm.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it kept my jacket cool outside. Yeah, dude, it kept my jacket like uh it was an insulator.
SPEAKER_02You know how cold I get, dude. I don't have had a fucking big ass jacket on.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah. Can you imagine that? Like getting so cold that like you're now you're contemplating leaving George Strait? Are you now?
SPEAKER_04Or you're not like fully enjoying it anymore. You just can't enjoy it when you're cold. That's the problem.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you're oh, I'm at my the concert I wanted to go to my whole freaking life.
SPEAKER_04No, I'm sure they're sure and my teeth are chattering, but exactly.
SPEAKER_02I have this to look at, and then later on when I tell the story, I won't remember the misery. I'll remember the misery. Yeah, but but the the the coolness of the situation is gonna be what I talk about and what I remember overall. So we we go through those situations, and but it's like eh. All right, I'll put up with this much.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, so I anyone that like so that stadium, I I believe it like someone said that it holds like 80,000. I'm not a Climps fan. I don't know.
SPEAKER_02That's what uh you said, but yeah, it's like 80,000. 80,000 at least.
SPEAKER_03It was 90,000 and some change, and that set the record for that stadium's attendance.
SPEAKER_02So I'm so you guys are I believe you guys set the record, man. Yeah, it's probably you two that put you over the record. Put them over.
SPEAKER_04That's it. That's what I'm going with. You know, but he set the record because both of us were there. That's right. Like screw the number. We were we were just there. Dakota and TK were there. That's it. Record setting, boom.
SPEAKER_03So when I checked into my hotel, there was a guy who's like, Oh, hey, what brings you into town? And I was like, Oh, we're going to the concert. He goes, Oh, yeah, you're good. There's gonna be plenty of seats, you know. It holds like 80,000. Uh, there's no way they're gonna fill that. I'm like, oh, cool. Maybe I'll yeah. I was like, oh, okay, I'll have some elbow room. No, dude, every seat was packed. But I got lucky, is like my seat had one of the flip up uh Clemson seats, so I had a little bit of like you know, back support. Yeah, a little bit of back restrict, a little comfort.
SPEAKER_02It was just built in. Oh, is it that's how the seat was?
SPEAKER_03Clip-on seats. Oh, okay. Stadium seats because it was it was already on the seat. Oh, really? Yeah, so someone like left it behind or something like that?
SPEAKER_02Because we used to go to our kids' uh football games at the high school, which is those kind of bleachers, so we bought ourselves these generic, you know, and it was like, oh, I have to have this every time. That actually I have to have this every time there's no way I'm sitting on that shit for two, three hours or whatever.
SPEAKER_04Well, what is it otherwise? It because we were down below, so I never is it just a concrete slab?
SPEAKER_03It was a metal metal bleacher that you see out here, just a regular high school stadium. So, I mean, we were we were like, and not to mention you're not sitting on a cold metal bleacher, too.
SPEAKER_00So anything blanket would feel good to eat on it. Pass that on to Amy.
SPEAKER_03No, she had one too, and she's like, she's like, Did you do this on purpose? I was like, Yeah. Yes, you do. Yes, I did. I had them rearranged.
SPEAKER_00You know who I am?
SPEAKER_02Um I had them inserted here while we were on our way here. I told him to have two ready. That's it.
SPEAKER_04I called the athletic director. I was like, go up to section six, C and D.
SPEAKER_02So that I love putting him down there. Yeah. How does he like because he's getting older, he's getting up there in age. So here's the thing. And I'm we'll talk about the you know, we can talk about the other people too, because they deserve you know, they're accolades as well. But he's getting up there, so when you go to see somebody that's getting up there, sometimes it looks like you know, Vince Neal, who really seems like you know what I mean? Like but country you can pretty much still sing after a while. Look at Willie Nelson.
SPEAKER_03I mean, you're in the music industry. Uh, on the way out of there, we were heading back up to uh to here in North Carolina. Uh, we put on a George Stray playlist, and I I will say right now, I think that him live was better than some of the recorded tracks. We were saying that, though. So cool.
SPEAKER_04So and he stood up the whole time. He never sat down, he wasn't on like a stool, he wasn't doing none of that.
SPEAKER_02Um I hate stools. I hate them. I like if you're a performer, stand the friggin' hell up, you know.
SPEAKER_00Especially when you get a hundred thousand people watching it. Yeah, yeah. That's probably carrying you a little bit. 100%.
SPEAKER_02I say that, but I almost had to sit down recently, so don't judge me if I do. My back's bad. But anyway, he's George Straight. Here's the thing.
SPEAKER_03So the stage was a It was a 360. It's fun all the whole time.
SPEAKER_02So he's playing to everybody. Everyone. All the time. Dude. It's not like you're you're in the back and you don't you get to see the back of his head the whole time. Dude, it's rotating. It's freaking cool.
SPEAKER_03So it would rotate, you know, 180, rotate 180. So you had a couple songs where you were like face to face with and the pictures, you know, I you know, I get the pictures and edit them. Dude, it was sick, bro. It was awesome. Cool. That's cool. It was awesome.
SPEAKER_02Now, is that the is that do you have anybody else that you'd want to see? Because that's your only concert you've ever been to. Is there anybody else that you thought, I mean, I want to go see them live?
SPEAKER_00Um you set the bar so high.
SPEAKER_03I really did, man. Everything lined up.
SPEAKER_02How cool is that? But the only thing that he's been in this business so long, and he's been so good for so long that he still sets the bar that high. He still brought up. People still want to come see him that record. Those are the kind of musicians I freaking love and adore. I, you know, it's like, man, how did you do this? How do you do what's what is the the formula?
SPEAKER_03So my thing is I was like, I was I wonder we want to go to Vegas and see him perform in Vegas. You know, there's you can have a little bit of an ensemble there. But watching him and Clemson, use you well to be loved by anyone.
SPEAKER_04That was like that's not George Clemson. It's like this is country. We're in a damn ACC football field. Yeah, you know what I mean? In South Carolina, George Strait.
SPEAKER_03And another first for me is I've never been to a college football game either. I've never been to a college football like stadium or anything else. That was the first time there.
SPEAKER_04This is what I'll say about Clemson, though. That would be a cool ass place to go to college because that little surrounding area, it's not like a city that's in a, you know, it's not a city that a c uh college is in. It's it's you can tell that uh Clemson grew outward from the college.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah, yeah, definitely. Well, I don't I've never been to Clemson, but my son went to App State, and that town is App State. Like Boone is like App State is there, and then there's strips and stuff. It's oh it's beautiful, but it's like that's it.
SPEAKER_04I'm on a disclaimer myself because we didn't go farther away from the stadium enough. So if you're from Clemson and you see this, I'm sorry if it was already there before the college.
SPEAKER_02Well, you yeah, but you're pumping them up, so they shouldn't be able to do that. I mean, I'm just I'm saying it's awesome.
SPEAKER_04Just no, the final thought is it was dang, it was cool as hell, and I guarantee it would be cool to go to school there. I know it would.
SPEAKER_03Who uh it was Cody Johnson, one of his guys that put on the Clemson hat, or was that George Strait's crew? I want to say it was George Strait's crew.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and everybody was like, there was it was mixed, man. Not everybody in there was Clemson fans.
SPEAKER_03Everybody was like, yo, no, no. So you know how you guys like you introduced your band and everything. Well, they introduced one of the one of the members of the band and he put on a Clemson hat. He took off his cowboy hat and put a Clemson hat on it. And it was like mixed reviews. It was mixed reviews.
SPEAKER_04You could hear the boos in there, it was like just noise. Because you know you know what it's like.
SPEAKER_02They're not booing the guy. Like that's all in good fun. It's like, dude, hell no, no. So it's funny to do shit like that, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, because in Clemson, you're you're close to everything, you know. Georgia's right right beside you, uh, all the other states, you know. So yeah, it was it was definitely mixed reviews, and it was it was funny to hear it's like some of the stuff that was being said about it, too.
SPEAKER_04Well, and you can definitely appreciate this because you were there. Man, that was one of the most patriotic concerts I've ever been to. Oh, yeah. Every single performer was like, dude, we're gonna stop right here for however long. Cody Johnson had the crowd sing God bless America. Uh George Strait was like, we're gonna take a minute to thank the police officers, has a whole song about police officers. Weight of the badge. I've never heard that song. Bro, dude.
SPEAKER_02It was insane. That's a good name for a song, dude. The weight of the badge.
SPEAKER_03And it's a good song, too. It's a great song.
SPEAKER_02That's cool. I gotta listen to that.
SPEAKER_03So, and then in in the show, he also had like a video uh like of the local police, Clemson police. Uh shows all their badges and patches. That's cool, man. That's cool. I tell you, like, I don't know if there's gonna be like a video of that that concert, but maybe it'll be on YouTube. Yeah, it'll be it was sick. It really was. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Man, that's cool, man.
SPEAKER_03Yesterday I'm working in a garage, you know, changing my oil and everything, and I pop open Spotify, and I just type in, you know, Wyatt Flores, Cody Johnson, and George Strait concert. They had uh they had the entire set list on that playlist. Oh, for real? Already, already. Oh yeah, it was awesome. So I was actually you know, listening to that again. I was like, man, that's that's pretty cool. I was I'm still on Cloud Nine for that.
SPEAKER_02Now let me ask you this. So there were a bunch of opening acts that were really good as well. What was one? What was your favorite? What was the second best? Was it Cody Johnson?
SPEAKER_03Listen, Cody Johnson's awesome. If you listen to country music, you you know Cody Johnson, right? Wyatt Flores, never heard of him. You know, I heard one song, didn't know it was him. Wyatt Flores put on quite the show, and I don't think the crowd, because the crowd was like pretty like sparse.
SPEAKER_02Because they didn't know him, they didn't know him, but everybody was like just getting it, you know, like let's go get a beer.
SPEAKER_03And that's exactly what it was. Like when he started performing, man, that was a pretty good so I I guess that's the underdog. Everyone roots for the underdog. That was it.
SPEAKER_02Well, and it's a tour, right? He's not just playing one concert, he's going places, so then he's riding around the same team, right? So he's gonna gain notoriety during the sure. So that's somebody we might know in the future.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I hope so.
SPEAKER_02What's his name again? Wyatt Flores. Check out Wyatt Flores on all your social media platforms.
SPEAKER_04Well, the thing is, too, is like you could be like, hey, so just imagine being at Clemson and being like, I don't know what they call their stadium, which is I'm sorry. Death Valley. Death Valley. Death Valley. I I mean I've seen it. I just didn't know if I was there. I just seen it. I just didn't, you know, it could be called something else. Death Valley. Okay, I'm only gonna play for 10,000 people, not a hundred. Like that's still a lot. You could look down like from a bird's eye view, and it it looks empty in there, and it's there's still, you know, 8,000 people in there. That might still be the biggest show you ever played, but because there's so many open seats, it looks like it's dead, but it's really not. There's still 8k people in there.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I mean it's for sure. So if you take like a like a household name, why flores, put them in Death Valley opening for Cody Johnson and George Tree. Like, come on, man. Like it doesn't get much better than that.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that's awesome, dude. I mean, 100%. You you have to you have to be on that build. You're gonna say yes to that show. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I wouldn't mind if any of you famous people are listening. Heart stop will be uh will open for you in a heartbeat if uh you can't.
SPEAKER_04I see what you did there. What heart stop opening in a heartbeat. Oh, yeah. We gotta be careful with the actual heartbeat, though.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's true. We will monitor those very closely. I can play in front of I've played in front of a thousand people. That's about it. That's pretty impressive. Well, that was a lot. That was a contest that I won. But that wasn't like my band playing in front of you. You know, it's not the same.
SPEAKER_04I feel like at a certain level though, like once it gets to that many people, it almost like it's there's gotta be a cap on the number where it's like it doesn't get any bigger. It's like, all right, it's five, what's the difference between five thousand and ten thousand people?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but no, because you can't see everyone. No, but look at these bands who play, you know, they play like a thousand, two thousand people, and then they go to like uh live aid when Queen played in front of the state where you can't even see as far as the people are, right? You're not gonna see everyone, but they're so ultra famous that it's like who cares if it's this many people or that many people or that many people or that many people. I guess you get to a point where it's like, I'm just gonna get up. Well, you do actually. You get to a point where I'm just I don't care if there's one person here or a hundred and two. You know, when we did the St. Paddy's things, there's hundreds of people in that tent. I don't care. I mean, I love it, that's great. I love I want there to be more and more people, but it's the same as when we play like a car show and nobody's paying attention to us because they're walking around looking at the cars. We're gonna play the same. We're gonna play the same, but I love when there's a giant freaking crowd there and they're all partying and they're having a good old time, you know. But uh yeah, not what we're not we're not on the 90,000 people. Uh not yet.
SPEAKER_03So you said you did some like tailgating beforehand, right? Yep. So as as I'm parking, uh, we parked right behind the Coliseum, and I I lucked out. I hopped a curb, parked a truck there, and went and talked to one of the troopers. I was like, hey, are you good? Uh yeah, am I good here? He goes, he looks around and goes, Man, listen, we were told if you can fit a tire on there, just let out. Just go ahead. I'm gonna take her pee real quick.
SPEAKER_04Well, there's only I mean, like I said, that that's it's not a city, so you gotta get creative if you're gonna you know figure something out. We parked at the uh the Dollar Tree. Oh, like up in the city, yeah. And we walked in because I was like, listen, the last thing that we need to do in here is go get drunk and then come back, and our car's gone. Because then you have a whole new set of problems. So let's ask, let's do the grown-up thing and go in here. And they said, if you're what you need to do, you can park here. Don't park on the front, park on the side, and don't park next to the dumpster. Done. Yeah, very good.
SPEAKER_03Listen, consider it done. So I we I looked at the map and uh and I was looking at all the parking areas and everything else, and then the paid parking was already you know bought and paid for by people who had more foresight than than I did. Uh us too.
SPEAKER_04I mean, we didn't even have a place to stay until we figured out that our his family friends were there. We were gonna sleep in the truck straight up. Yeah, that's awesome.
SPEAKER_03That's awesome. So I we came down like the by the bridge over that little lake that's beside the uh this like the university and everything else. So we took the first right by the Coliseum, parked on that curb, and we we left right before he played the two encores. I was able to just do a slight U-turn, get on the main drag, and I didn't stop the whole way to Greenville, South Carolina.
SPEAKER_04See, so we were on the other side.
SPEAKER_03Ah, okay.
SPEAKER_04You were over there, and we were over here, so we were where everybody else and their mom was at. So but we had parked a mile away, so we kind of got out of that blast radius of like a hurricanes game when it's like your exit strategy is very important when you leave in a big event like that.
SPEAKER_03Dude, that was something that I learned because I I didn't know that. Like I was telling her, I was like, no, uh, I look, there is parking here, we're just gonna risk it, you know? Why not?
SPEAKER_00Sometimes the closer you get is damning whenever everything gets done because you you're excited to get there close, but then you forget about how you're gonna get out of there.
SPEAKER_04Yep. You'll be you'll you'll essentially be the last one to leave. Right.
SPEAKER_00You might be the first one in, but you're the last one to leave. And now you're tired and you just want to drive to Greenwald.
SPEAKER_03Exactly. So and I was facing traffic too. So, like I said, I had to do that U-turn. And when he ended the show through the pick, would have loved to catch that. Uh but when we did that, uh, she's like, All right, hey, it's probably best if we leave here. We're gonna miss two songs, but it it'll it'll pay off.
SPEAKER_04And I'm like, I've never been in a concert before just to get ahead a little, exactly a little bit.
SPEAKER_03Now he did he did play like two really good songs. So it was like All My Exes Live in Texas, and then write this down. That was two songs that I was looking forward to. But as we're walking out, I did get to hear, you know, all my exes live in Texas. Right. Even from outside the stadium, it was awesome. It was awesome.
SPEAKER_04And it's like even we left because he did take me to Texas, and then he did like a Tom Petty cover, and I was like, I'm going to the bathroom because I was like, I just want to pee real quick before I get on this mile and a half walk and then have to pee. No way, and it wasn't the so we were talking about this before we started. It was like, dude, if you were gonna pee during the show, you're committing to losing three songs of whoever you're watching. At the minimum, you're committing to losing seeing three songs of whoever you're watching because the line was so astronomically long. I'm assuming it was like that every single place.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, so we we timed it up that like it was after the sets.
SPEAKER_04Andrew, can you give me the other Heineken and the White Fridge?
SPEAKER_03So we timed it up for the side. Not the clear one after the sets, and then you still like we're down there three rows up from the like the wall. So we timed it up that after the sets, like from Wyatt to Cody, you know, you just rush up there, and then even then, like I was like, oh. It's not enough time, it's not, man. So I was like, I I know that Cody has like maybe a couple songs. It's like I'm gonna go ahead and risk it. So beat feet up.
SPEAKER_04Because you've got to bank on that. He's not gonna drop bangers right out of the gate. He's gonna play some like not slower, but just not the hits. Yeah. And that's it, might be a little self-justification because I was standing in line with people in the bathroom, like, well, he's not gonna play the best song ever right out of the gate. Like, I'm just trying to make myself feel better because I can't hear it.
SPEAKER_00You can't enjoy the concert if you got a piss that bad. 100%. I mean, it's like a movie.
SPEAKER_02That's what I'm telling you, dude. When I go to the movies, I hate it because I always have to pee.
SPEAKER_04But I will drink it though.
SPEAKER_02Is that a zero?
SPEAKER_04Is that the zero?
SPEAKER_01Is it a zero? But you said in the clear fridge.
SPEAKER_04I said not in the clear, no worries. Dude, dude, dude, you're good. I'll just drink this one. Is that a zero? It's probably better that way.
SPEAKER_01I I thought it was in zero.
SPEAKER_04Dude, your heart was in the right.
SPEAKER_03My joke at the beginning of the episode stands to fruition. I love it. You're welcome.
SPEAKER_04It's the long con, is what they call it. So, yeah, the the bathrooms, uh it's only as good as you can get, man. It's it's 90k people. What you can't even be mad, and you gotta know what you're gonna be having to account for. I I don't even know what you would do if you wanted to get food. You you might miss you might miss the show.
SPEAKER_03So when I when we came in, we were I don't know, call it like three minutes from the opening of the gate. And like first thing we did was he dipped in there, got some chicky tendies and some french fries.
SPEAKER_04But it's good to start that way. Exactly. You can't be like two hours in and be like, let's go get some hot dogs.
SPEAKER_02Like, eat before I showed up, and then I wouldn't have to eat again.
SPEAKER_00That's why you do it during tailgating. That's what we were doing.
SPEAKER_03We were like we got like a tailgate special from Bojangles and just crushed out and I didn't have that chance because like one, I had to fight with the hotel to get an early check-in because everyone was there, and MX Platinum was like, Oh, yeah, you get early check-in. That's only available if the hotel allows it.
SPEAKER_04So like they're not at max capacity dealing with other raging people.
SPEAKER_02Exactly. You're putting 90,000 people into this. Yeah. The the hotels are probably all booked up. Oh, yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_04We looked at them on the way down, which is why we were contemplating. We were gonna go to Greenville. We went to sleep on Friday night, and we're there was probably like 78 rooms in this place we were looking at. Woke up at 7 30 in the morning on Saturday, there was none. None. So we started looking, and within like probably a 10 mile to 15.
SPEAKER_02You woke up at 7 30.
SPEAKER_04Well, we had to get on the road. We wanted a tailgate. So I'm just asking.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, so I was at the mercy of like we can do this.
SPEAKER_02I'm just kidding.
SPEAKER_03I was at the mercy of like waking up, like I got like a four-hour nap. And then that's what we did too. Yeah. Four hour nap.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but then you get your second win when you're there, and it's like, oh yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but then if you like when we're there, like then I hit like that. So I ran out of gas. Yeah, I was like, but man, when Cody Johnson was doing his thing, man, he had the crowd going crazy, and then he was like pumping it up, like getting ready for you know the king, and then the stadium went black. So you can you can test this. Stadium went black, you know, the spotlights come on to the the tunnel, he's coming out, and then his first song was uh Stars on the Water, yeah, or something like that. Did you have the uh the bracelet?
SPEAKER_04Nope. I was uh I didn't have the bracelet, but you know how I knew that that he was about to come on stage? I heard it because I was about to walk into the bathroom. Oh man.
SPEAKER_02Oh Jesus, how many bathroom breaks messed up your uh your experience? That was the only one. Okay, man.
SPEAKER_03So they gave you all like bracelets as soon as you walked in, right? So yeah, they put up a message like, hey, pull the tab. So as soon as you you did that, all right, it was an LED light that was like radio controlled throughout the whole thing. Synchronized. So I had to get a video of it uh you know out to you guys. So he goes up there, does this introduction and everything else, and then goes into the first song is stars on uh stars on the water, and then everyone's uh bracelet lights up white and blue, and it was stars on the water. To the beat and stars, that's I looked around and I was blown away. So like you're sitting there. So they put some work into this production. That's cool. So your wrist is like blinging up and you're looking, and it's not just cell phone lights, it is an LED light that is just going crazy across the whole stadium. Oh, dude. Dude, what a chance. So yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04So during it like third. That's on people's hands, bro.
SPEAKER_02I can't even believe how many people are in this right now. Like you talk about the number and you don't put it into perspective until it's a good thing.
SPEAKER_04So decoded, this is gonna mess them up. So not you see how it looks like a sea of lights, right? Yeah, not every single person has one on.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but I figured, yeah, that's and it did the whole thing doesn't. So there you go, bro. And that's just a way to do like one of those where you can just change the lighting and we're in the future. We're in the future, dude.
SPEAKER_03Think Govy lights on everyone's wrist.
SPEAKER_02We're in the future, right?
SPEAKER_04Right, dude. It was insanity. It was insanity. I mean you gotta see this too. So when like the main when the main stage is like blue, everybody's wrist lights are rut lighting up blue and white, and it's it's color coordinated. That's 100%. Yeah. Here, pass this to Android.
SPEAKER_02And some nerds in the back going blue, red, white. Oh, okay, cool. So yeah, man. Red. Some nerds. That's cool, man.
SPEAKER_04Making a hard, good killing doing that. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_02We need one of those nerds on this show to do our editing stuff. You know what I mean? Do a lot of that.
SPEAKER_03That was it was awesome, bro. That was an awesome touch right there, man.
SPEAKER_02That's pretty cool.
SPEAKER_03So, whenever I first got to the stadium, like I pop open my Ticketmaster app and it logs me out. So, you know, when that many people are in a concentrated area, the cell service is just trash.
SPEAKER_04And you're like, please don't do this to me right now where I can't access my damn ticket.
SPEAKER_02That's when you start airdropping a bunch of funny pictures to every phone that you can find on your airdrop thing. No, I got an Android. Uh it's a pull start. Is it a wind up or a pull start? Yeah. The pull start. It's a pull start. Okay.
SPEAKER_03Hey, man, I got a couple minutes. What's up? So it's it's funny you guys bring that up. It's like when I was over there, I got to do it.
SPEAKER_02I keep remembering your green bubble. Okay.
SPEAKER_03When I was over there, I got issued a work phone and it was an iPhone. Hell yeah. How do I work this thing? Hell yeah, brother. But it's the enabled. So are you an iPhone? Is your next phone gonna be an iPhone? No, man. I'm not. No. Oh, geez. It was an old, it's an older iPhone. Oh, that's why. Yeah, it's iPhone SE, dude. Wow. Yeah, dude.
SPEAKER_02Wasn't an iPhone the first smartphone?
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Nah, I mean it depends on what you want to classify a smartphone and uh Blackberry.
SPEAKER_02Like the cool one where you have the whole entire screen where you can just point. Yeah, Blackberry had that stupid little wheel, and the you still had to do the typing all week.
SPEAKER_04I had the first slide up Android. I had the first Android that came out. Yeah, yeah, yeah. The slide up and then they had the gold.
SPEAKER_02I had a razor. I had a razor.
SPEAKER_00That was my first smartphone. Was a razor.
SPEAKER_02Mine was a razor, and I flipped it up. I was like, oh, what's up? How's it going? Texting was You're on Lee's razor. And then I got way cooler when I got an iPhone.
SPEAKER_00I still have my original iPhone.
SPEAKER_02I'm not like, you know what the thing is? I'm not brand specific. But the thing is, I I I get Apple computers more than I get PCs. I've been working on working with PCs forever because you always do it in the government or whatever military, like you're always working with a Dell or an HP or something like that. At home, I was my buddy bought a Mac way back in the day, way fucking back in the day. I think it was like a Thursday or something. But anyway, he uh he was like, bro, I'm gonna bring my Mac. I'm like, you got a Mac? Why would you do that? They're so not mainstream. He's like, Well, let me just bring my Mac and you can try it out for a weekend. So for that weekend, I'm playing around and it took me a minute, but I was like, I cannot use PC anymore. This has to be my new but that's when they first were coming into the mainstream, like because they, you know, we Apple had the education contracts where they were in the schools and stuff like that.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, like when I was in elementary school. Right, yeah.
SPEAKER_02So they had a bunch of apples in schools, but then they started expanding and making it more like Bill Gates' uh thing where you know, not his thing where engineers meet or tries to tell us what to take or tries to get us on digital ID and tries to, you know, take control of the world or anything. But the other thing, the marketing thing where he's where he's marketing to everybody can have a PC in their house. Well then Apple was like, hey, you know what? That's true, they can also have a Mac. And then I started using a Mac and I was like, dude, I'm never going back. So I have Macs and I have a PC.
SPEAKER_00Well, once you get compute uh you know comfortable with using a operating system, it doesn't matter which one.
SPEAKER_02Yes, but I was so used to the PC that it took but Mac was like such an easy transfer.
SPEAKER_00And now that you're comfortable with Mac and I want to use a PC.
SPEAKER_02I'm like, where how do you shut this? Where's the start? Because they change it all the time. All the time. It's like start, we'll put the start button up at the top right corner. Let's put it over here. Let's put the power button down there now. And they change it all around so much that it's like if I don't use it often.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I'm still on Windows 10 for that reason.
SPEAKER_02You see what I'm saying? It becomes it becomes more and more difficult.
SPEAKER_03He was just not open-minded.
SPEAKER_02He says a lot of things best.
SPEAKER_04But I do like like I do all of my work on a PC. Like if I was gonna go DJ somewhere, I would use my Mac, but you don't do the show on a PC, do you? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You do? You use a PC to do the uh Da Vinci? Yep. I have a gaming PC. Should I be using that?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, maybe that's your problem. It probably wouldn't hurt you none. Not even trying to sound funny. No, I mean I'll Because it's got the CPU power for the processing power.
SPEAKER_02I'll try it. Not that it's gonna speed it up any. No, and I I'm not against PC. I'm not saying I'm against PC. I'm just saying that I love the ease of use of an Apple computer. I love MacBook. I love iAMac.
SPEAKER_04It's just all in it's all integral. You know, you get compare with your phone. My phone, everything.
SPEAKER_02It everything comes up everywhere. And it's like, now one, that's a way for them to control us. But uh two, I I I bought the PC for gaming. I bought it for specifically for Microsoft Flight Simulator for my Quest 3 headset. The only reason I bought it. And so that's what I use it for. That's the only thing I use it for. So I can use it for other stuff.
SPEAKER_04I just well there's here's like the thing to agree with you, which you're saying. There comes a point where it becomes annoying that everything is connected because some I turned everything off on my matrix. I do not need to know on my laptop when someone's texting me or trying to FaceTime me. Because if you turn all that shit on, it gets confusing. Yeah, well, a FaceTime call will come into your laptop and you're like, dude, I'm just trying to write this paper real quick.
SPEAKER_02Or you'll get an old text that you already answered on your phone as soon as you open your laptop. It's like ping.
SPEAKER_03And when it catches on the white catching up.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03No, I got a Microsoft Surface Pro that's like, you know, a few years old, but it it does the job. Like I can't. I mean, that's the damn new that's a computer, dude.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, like 100%.
SPEAKER_02I also had to buy a la a PC laptop for the laser printer. I'm sorry, the laser engraver that uh that Ben gave me, this old lady and whatever. He's got a you know he's got a badass one. Oh yeah. And so the one he was like, here, you want this? If you can get it working, it's yours. So I was like, I got it working in a day. I mean, there was nothing wrong with it. You clean it off and get it going. But I don't know anything about it, and you have to have this PC to use it, and it says PC laptop, but it's old, just old uh interface that doesn't really make sense. So when you look up a file, you have to look up a file, put it into this program, fix it, and then put it in that program before it's ready for going into this. If it were a Mac, you put it into one program, it would be ready to to print. You know what I mean? So I'm like PC, I'm like, I gotta use this to break it into that and to turn it into this, and then I gotta do this. That's that's just my experience with it.
SPEAKER_03That's first world problems.
SPEAKER_02It is first world problems, it is first world problems, but um I I have a dedicated laptop to that to that laser engraver.
SPEAKER_03I'm surprised you don't have uh a 3D printer.
SPEAKER_02I do have a 3D printer.
SPEAKER_03You do have a 3D printer, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I've had one for like six years.
SPEAKER_03So it's funny. Uh one of my buddies over there he has a 3D printer.
SPEAKER_02And um you haven't seen the cool shit I've printed? No, bro, dude.
SPEAKER_03All right, so you guys see it.
SPEAKER_02All right, so I printed a fucking whole entire electric violin that works. Oh man, that's pretty wild. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So upstage a little bit. Um, here we go. He's like, Yeah, that's cool and all. So while we're over there, uh there's this there's this drone called a Shahed 136. Uh it makes makes a great appearance, right? It makes a great fireworks show. Well, my buddy has a 3D printer and we all had crocs. So he made a Shahed drone gibbet to put onto your Crocs. It was a little bit of sick humor, you know, just given what they do. But uh we also had the the A10 gibbet too. So you had the A10 gibbet that shoots down the Shahed, but we had them both on our on our crocs.
SPEAKER_02I'm bringing it one croc and two, like they're both facing each other.
SPEAKER_03So next episode, I'm bringing them. I'm gonna pop the word there. Nice. That is cool. Not he was he's 3D printing everything, man. He's he had a um he was 3D printing uh little RC cars. Uh he did um like a fishing rod holder and everything else. Like it was just something you just you know, like you said, put it into the program and just let it rip.
SPEAKER_02I've done like iPad stands, I've done well the the the uh the violin, but I did a from the quest three, there's this ping pong game that I liked. 11 table tennis, it's fucking fun. But you can just use the regular thing, but it's not like holding a paddle. You feel it, all that stuff. But I 3D printed a ping pong paddle that holds my controller, and now it feels like I'm really playing ping pong.
SPEAKER_03Oh, okay, gotcha.
SPEAKER_02And I can play it in you know, VR or mixed reality. I can be in my house and just see everything around me, but I have this ping pong table right here. I'm just playing this AI thing, dude. It's the new coolest thing that I like to do. But that's one thing I printed. I've printed the the Capitol building and I have it in my so in my office I have a bunch of statues of like Mozart and The Thinker and Julius Caesar with a bunch of it's a pen holder. So all the pens are in his back, like like these being statues, you know, Julius Caesar. Yeah, yeah. That's the one of the coolest things. I've got the uh the golden thing from uh Indiana Jones where he's has to take the golden so just a bunch of shit like that. But it's whatever I want to print. I've printed some cool stuff, I've printed some stuff that doesn't work, and it's like I'll go on this website and be like, oh that's cool, let's print it.
SPEAKER_04What's the what's the ammo of that?
SPEAKER_02Uh PLA. So it's plastic, it's it's in a it's a reel of of plastic and it comes out in like a almost like a weed eater line that you feed in there.
SPEAKER_03That's about the best way to describe it as weed eater line. If you have PET G, it's flexible, right?
SPEAKER_02It is. I so I use PLA, but the PLA is very like you have to keep it in a seal and a vacuum sealed because once it gets you know exposed to the elements, it'll start breaking and stuff like that. So if it's sat there for long enough, it'll break, and then I've got but I also have this this dehydrator right next to it that it sits in that keeps it at a certain temperature that keeps it, you know, uh so as it's feeding in, the only the only exposed wires like this long, everything else is just keeping it dehydrated or whatever it is, yeah, keeping it at the right temperature, and then it comes out perfectly on the board. I also bought an aftermarket like plate for it to come on so I can take the plate off and just bend it to get the thing out because it sometimes it's hard to scrape that thing off.
SPEAKER_03So he he used like I think it's Pet G. Someone can correct me if that no, you're right, PEG G. Yeah, so it's very flimsy. So he was able to print off flash waters because flies like flies are the national bird of the Middle East. Uh so yeah, you gotta you gotta you gotta manage that somehow.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, those are the you gotta go around with that.
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah, fucking yeah, you just look like his tail right there.
SPEAKER_02She's gonna be chasing uh reflections now that the sun is in the right place, she'll be chasing reflections for the rest of the show. So she doesn't mind. That's Penny over there doing that stuff.
SPEAKER_03So we go back to uh episode five, whenever I told the story about handing that bottle weller off to that country dude smoking a a cigar in his work van. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I remember that. I check into embassy suites, and then one of the uh one of the perks of being an Amex member and everything else is uh they give you free drink cards. Well, I checked on a Saturday, we went to the to the concert, so restaurant closed, right? So it's 'cause they have like a happy hour, right? Yeah. So there was two tickets, two drinks each, or you can upgrade to a cocktail for four bucks. Um so I get it and like Sunday, it's closed. Monday we're leaving, it's open from 6 p.m. to whatever else for the happy hour. So I have these, right? And I wanted to get around a golf in while I was there, and they ended up having some kind of tournament and a fundraiser event there. So I had these these cards for this free drinks, right? So the the tournament's about to kick off and we're about to check out. So I uh I bring out those cards and I drive out there, and there's a guy pulling out his clubs uh to to you know go do his round. And uh I was like, Hey buddy, are are you local? He goes, Yeah, yeah. I was like, Well, uh, I see you're about to go to this tournament. So after you hit a few piss missiles into the trees, here's some free drinks to cope with it. He's like, Hell yeah, man, I appreciate that. So him and his buddy, they got four drinks there for free. There you go. Shout out to the city. That's called being a bro, dude. That's it. That's it.
SPEAKER_04That's crazy that they do that across the board because we used to stay at an MB embassy suites whenever we go to the Coke 600 and right there in Concord and uh basically Charlotte. And we stayed there and they did the same thing. They'll give you a ticket on the check-in. It's like if you get two of them, then they'll just hold punch it. Whether you use them in one sitting or not, it's up to you. Spoiler alert, I did every time. Just one trip for me. Oh, trust me, I would have. I would have. Just one trip. Like but it's only open for like two hours at the wine in Charlotte or whatever. It's a very, very small window of time. It's like six to nine or something like that.
SPEAKER_00By design. Yeah, because it's all these free drinks that they can't use.
SPEAKER_02I haven't really ever drank and flew. I never really have had alcohol on planes. Oh buddy. Oh, never have done it.
SPEAKER_03Listen. That's the only way I can fly.
SPEAKER_02So nah, flying's great, man. I love flying.
SPEAKER_03So I'm about to have to do it in two days. I'm not looking forward to it. So I had bought that upgraded ticket, uh leaving Germany, going to uh Dulles in uh Washington, DC, and uh upgraded the business class again. Not proud about the price I paid, but it was worth it, man. I I got a good few hours of sleep and the meal was pretty good. But uh we get on there and they're like, hey, would you like start out with a drink? And they have the sparkly wine and everything else. I was like, uh, do you have scotch? Like, I'd really like a scotch right now. She's like, nah, we we gotta wait till we're up in the air. I was like, when it when we're up and you can move around, remember Scotch. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, remember me. So sure as God's got sandals, man. As soon as she started rolling the card. As soon as she started rolling a card around there, she comes over there with some Dewars, which I mean that's popular out there in Europe and Middle East. And uh it was a it was like a like 1.75 shooter, and she pours one. I'm like, all right, that's good. And she goes, Do you want two? I was like, Yeah, let's go ahead and do two. Let's go ahead.
SPEAKER_04So just so you don't have to come back over here, exactly.
SPEAKER_03Man, so I get two of them there, and it ends up being like a two and a half finger pour. So get that going, and then she goes up there and she's then she's bringing back like the first little uh meal, and she looks at it and she goes, You want another one? I was like, Yeah, yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, but your tolerance had to be pretty low.
SPEAKER_03Oh man, so you you did you give up like the liquor for Lent. Oh yeah, I I did the same thing, I just did it for seven months. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02That's when you go to those air countries that don't allow alcohol, like anytime you do an Afghanistan deployment, you're not drinking that whole time. No, no, man. So when you get back after seven months, you're like, this would put me on my ass. Yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, you have to pace yourself. Yeah, so when I checked into uh Dubai, I went out there to that uh the restaurant, and I'm a big McAllen guy. The first restaurant I went to that was a part of the hotel, they only had McAllen 12. Don't get me wrong, it's great. Wasn't my first choice, but it was the only choice.
SPEAKER_04You were looking for something more.
SPEAKER_03I'm looking for 18. If you want Scotch, Scotch really gets its legs under it, 15 to 18, and then go on. So I grabbed McAllen 12, that's my first drink. Uh, and the hotel is at the Dubai Marina. So I grabbed that and I I walk down there and sounds fancy. Oh, it was beautiful, man. Beautiful. So I walk down to the uh to the beach area, it's another another restaurant, and um you know, I they're like, hey, do you want to order food and drinks? And I was like, Well, do you have a McAllen 18? And she says, Yeah, yeah, for sure. I was like, all right, I want that. Game on. So I took uh I take that McAllen 12, just push it to the side. She brings me McAllen 18, man. And I'm sitting there on the beach in Dubai Marina right there, just sipping a McAllen 18 and uh grabbing me a nice little meal and everything else, man. I was I was living high. You're like, let's go. Yeah, dude, let me tell you, make a McAllen 18, like after seven months of no alcohol, like that, that tasted delicious. Yeah, it was awesome.
SPEAKER_02I was like, this is the perfect amount. I will now lay here taking the sights.
SPEAKER_04Yes, I will veg out right now.
SPEAKER_02Yes, yes. No, I get it, man. I I remember the feeling of well, like when you come back from Afghanistan and you go to Manas, yeah, and you can drink for the first time. Yep. And so when we haven't drink a lot of times, what I'll do is, nah man, I went seven months without drinking. I'm not drinking here, I'm drinking when I get home. Yeah, for sure. So that sucks because you're like, I could have a couple beers or something, and then you go home, and it's like way better.
SPEAKER_00Save that first drink for the American soil.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's way better. Yeah, it's way better when you get home.
SPEAKER_03You guys see my collection. Like, I I knew that whenever I got home, I was gonna be taken care of. But while I was there, that's also you took the long road home.
SPEAKER_02And also, you and Roger need to speak. We have to have so the next episode we gotta have you on, you two on. Okay, I know what you're getting. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_03So Roger Roger would definitely appreciate the the bottle that I'm gonna bring. Uh I think it's gonna knock his socks off. Uh it's gonna be great for the viewers.
SPEAKER_02And you two haven't even met, right?
SPEAKER_03No, no. So he That's so cool. Yeah, he started coming around the shop as well.
SPEAKER_04Have you guys had correspondence online at all, or not really?
SPEAKER_03When I saw that he posted his Kentucky trip, I was like, You're my guy right there, man. Like, all right, we wrote him or something. Yeah, okay, cool, cool.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because we you know we kept saying to him, like, you're gonna love Dakota. Yeah, so yeah, we're like, You gotta meet this guy. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So once I saw that he had posted his his haul from Kentucky, I was like, All right, that's my guy. Like, he's gonna appreciate.
SPEAKER_02So if anybody does, it's gonna be him. He'll know. Oh, yeah exactly.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. So he was even saying, and he's like, Yeah, I'm I want to meet this guy. Yeah, oh man, it's it's gonna be a good time.
SPEAKER_02We'll do that next episode.
SPEAKER_04So we're in uh that would be the 16th, I'm assuming.
SPEAKER_02When are you coming in back? And so you're leaving on the on Thursday. When are you coming back? Monday.
SPEAKER_04Where are you headed to?
SPEAKER_02Vegas.
SPEAKER_04Oh, nice. Great. So you're gonna be hung. We're staying back. South point.
SPEAKER_03All right, so this is what I want to bring up is one of the episodes while I was gone, uh, you had a rough night, and you thought you were getting a flavored Mountain Dew. Yeah, remember that?
SPEAKER_02Remember that? You were gone by then? Yes. Remember, he's the one that wrote in, like, bro, that's been in there for about a year.
SPEAKER_04It tasted that way.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and you drank the did you drink the whole thing? I think you did.
SPEAKER_04I did. But it was like I had opened it and I was like, I'm not gonna waste it again to it. Yeah, and maybe this little alcohol might help my case a little bit.
SPEAKER_02And I didn't know there was even alcohol in it. I thought it was just some weird Mountain Dew that you were drinking.
SPEAKER_04I had a kind of an inclination that it was alcohol because it's not like a Mountain Dew I'd ever seen before.
SPEAKER_02Plus they fermented for a year.
SPEAKER_04So I had to like I had to like wipe the dust off. I was like, oh, that's a Mountain Dew logo.
SPEAKER_02So it was probably more like liquor at that point. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Straight well-aged prison hoops. Watching that episode and seeing you do that, I'm like, yeah, that was that was because of me. Like, you're welcome.
SPEAKER_02I loved reading your comments, man. Every time I was like, yes, this is fucking classic Dakota. We can't wait to get you back.
SPEAKER_04Well, what was the one that you commented? Oh, the freaking the Marvin Gaye thing. He was like, This is the funniest moment of the freaking hot asses podcast ever.
SPEAKER_02You're not even supposed to say that. I don't think we're supposed to call that.
SPEAKER_03I think I said something like, oh wow, we're getting close to community guidelines here. Like you said, I was like, oh my god.
SPEAKER_04Well, funny story. Yeah, the way that he had clipped it originally, I was like, bro, you gotta go read back and edit it.
SPEAKER_02He did because it was like you didn't come enough, there's no context. You did not give enough context. Sounds like I'm saying the gays. And I was like, Because it didn't say like the families or whatever. He was like, you know, the gays. And I was like, whoa, bro, we're not supposed to.
SPEAKER_04I texted them immediately because I get alerts when this stuff comes out.
SPEAKER_02He's like, can you please like pull it back a little bit so they can see the context that comes up?
SPEAKER_00That's where editing becomes really important.
SPEAKER_02I was like, dude, you're but it was gonna be funny. I think the first I get why he wanted to do it, so I backed it up a little bit.
SPEAKER_04Text message I sent to him. I was like, Oh, so I guess you're just trying to get me canceled or whatever. Like, just put me right in the crosshairs of the United States.
SPEAKER_02Like we're but we've both so we've had episodes where I was I was disgruntled on one of the episodes. I was just everything, maybe. Oh, there's a couple of things. I've had one disgruntled emphasis. Where I'm like, oh I'm like, no, fuck it. If you're in the left lane, you know, I just uh I just go crazy. But uh I've been actually passionate about one episode.
SPEAKER_03Pause that uh left lane, go back to episode five. Uh I got in the left lane and I was doing as you should in the left lane and end up getting you know caught for it. Eight over. Aid over. That is always the risk that you do. Yeah. So uh, you know, I I think I put it in there in the last uh last episode. It's like you don't pay tickets, you pay lawyers. So that's right. Uh obviously I was gone worried when that was all going there. But good news is um, you know, I was I was not guilty of speeding, it was, you know, something else. Faulty equipment. Faulty equipment. I guess that speedometer just didn't work out.
SPEAKER_02My drummer is a retired police officer, and he says, nine, you're fine, ten, you're mine. I don't go nine, I go eight over. Eight over. If you're doing the speed limit, the speed limit or less in the left lane, you are an idiot. You should not have a driver's license, you need to turn it in. I'm telling you, I have been I had today I had severe road rage because of you can't get, you can't. I'm sitting here and they'll just do it just to camp in the left lane. They're doing they're they're doing 50 and a 55.
SPEAKER_04You should have seen my boy Jared. He he's got the worst road rage I've ever seen.
SPEAKER_02While the right lane is doing 55. Not they're not doing 60, they're doing 55 in a 55. So I'm like, get get over so I can get past you. Like you clearly don't want to do, and they're just like, la de dah, they don't care.
SPEAKER_03The worst is when they find a buddy to be beside. Yeah, and then it's completely.
SPEAKER_02I call that the Carolina Drift. I don't like it. I'm like, look, we got the Carolina drift on anybody. No, I don't either.
SPEAKER_00I get a little bit of a.
SPEAKER_02All you're doing is keeping the people behind you, and they're all pissed.
SPEAKER_04Dude, I will I'll slow down. Like if I'm in the right lane and I see like and I'm like kind of next to somebody, and they're, you know, like when you're like my my front bumper's on their back bumper, and because I'm not paying attention, I'm just doing like, you know, five or six over. And but this person in the left lane is doing what y'all are talking about and like going too slow, and I see that other car creep up to their bumper, I'll literally let off and be like, yo, go. Like, get get over and then weave courtesy. What you're supposed to do. Like get over and weave. I can see, I can see you want to go with somebody.
SPEAKER_02There was somebody coming down the road today. I was coming back from somewhere on 24, and it's 35. He was doing 50 or something like that. I'm like, okay, clearly we're not allowed to do this, and he's coming up on everybody. And I'm like, well, I can't get over in time, so just go around me, whatever you want to do. Now, those idiots, I I don't know what to tell you. I mean, 17 over and get over your way. I'm not gonna get out of the way if I'm doing eight over and you're doing 20 over, I'm just not gonna get out of the way because I have to turn left or something like that. But if it's an idiot that's doing 50 and a 55, you're an idiot. You should not have a license. You don't need a license anymore. If you can't keep up with the rules of the road, you don't need a license. You have somebody else take you where you need to go. This is why traffic sucks, because people are so stupid that they don't pay attention to any not every person is stupid. The people that are stupid are the ones that don't have any fucking idea or care what's going on around.
SPEAKER_00Having awareness, that's what situation is. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_02I get if you're on a Sunday cruise, get in the right lane. Right.
SPEAKER_03So I mean, I guess we should uh like preface this was saying, like, when you're on the interstate, you should definitely be driving defensively because you have your own driving style, but you don't know what the guy behind you, left or right, is gonna do. If you see a guy coming up on you like that, you you want to get out of the way because you don't know what's gonna happen if he can't slow down in time and now all of you guys are in an accident. Right. So I've seen plenty of accidents.
SPEAKER_02So then you keep like a car length in front of you because idiots are behind you and they're not paying attention. Somebody was talking uh the other day that they almost got hit by a semi because it wasn't paying attention. Yeah. And so they darted out of the way, everybody darted out of the way. Who the hell was that? Was it might have been TK? I don't know, it was around the table, but it wasn't during the show. It was like, you know, we get everybody around the table and we talk about these things around the table, and it's like you don't remember if you talked about it on the show or if you talked about it. Right, right.
SPEAKER_00How's that late afternoon sun right now?
SPEAKER_02Isn't it awesome? Isn't it great that we put the shade on that side instead of this side where it belongs?
SPEAKER_03Oh man, let me tell you.
SPEAKER_02Uh George asked me to ask you if you could measure that and and get a new shade and buy a shade that will go there and he'll pay for it.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_02We need to use your discount. Very much. We can we can maybe put my new water heater in that discount. That would be great. I have to buy a new water heater because my water heater broke. But yeah, we can't do this at this time. This is just too we look like we've just got bombed.
SPEAKER_04You know, too, to be fair, it is at 15% better than yes, the other.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but it's so freaking bad. This is terrible.
SPEAKER_04We need a well, yeah, not even the video wise, it just getting annihilated. But we were I was talking a couple of days ago to Lee and Solange. It would have been cool, like take that screen thing as it is, if it was like on a runner and you can move it as the sun moves. Yes, very much, like a little runner. You're good. Just screen it all in and add a door. Or that. But like for this purpose, like, okay, we can change the entrance from there to here.
SPEAKER_00Just like somebody did not know how the sun sets over here when they installed that shit.
SPEAKER_04Oh like the direct blast radius. Yeah. But I mean, it's all good. I mean, high you know, hindsight is 2020. You you build stuff, you you hindsight is 2020. I guarantee you you've built something before and been like, why did I do that? Damn it.
SPEAKER_00Damn it.
SPEAKER_04I'd only just follow the sun. Yeah, where's my sundial? Straight up. Nice shirt. Right? Look at that. That's awesome.
SPEAKER_03Oh man.
SPEAKER_04Lee almost got on a UFO kick the other day. I'm telling you, I'm waiting for the episode. I I've been watching it. It dedicates it. We need one that just totally dedicates itself to that because that's a long conversation. Are they real or are they not?
SPEAKER_03That's only the tip of the iceberg. I'm telling you, I'm waiting for the moon landing. We just had Artemis II go up there. Like, you know, we're we're almost to that episode where we just break it all down.
SPEAKER_04Before we'd have no other choice but to talk about it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, exactly. But then you got to remember it's just a cigar circle that this is just what we do, just making stuff up and going. We watch too many YouTube videos. Exactly.
SPEAKER_00Go down rabbit holes like Lee every day. He's got no better things to do in his life than I'm telling you, man.
SPEAKER_03Going down that rabbit hole, man. You better dedicate some time right there.
SPEAKER_04I told him because I said nice shirt, and his shirt has a UFO on it.
SPEAKER_02I said we kind of I saw it earlier and I meant to bring that up too. I was like, yeah, boy, I love that shirt. Love it.
SPEAKER_04Well, you said they're called something else now. Not to not to scrape on that topic too hard, but you said they're called something else now, though, right?
SPEAKER_02Like UAPs.
SPEAKER_04We were joking about the fact that somebody's job was to be like, let's rename that. Yeah. Like for no good reason. Like, let's just rename it. Just to confuse us. Right. Like, come on.
SPEAKER_00Still UFOs to me.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, they're like, but no, it's UAPs. And UAP. That's some fear-mongering 101.
SPEAKER_03I don't know, man. I just think that this universe is way too big to think that we're the only ones here.
SPEAKER_00Why is there so many stars in the sky? I mean, come on. Go out there at night.
SPEAKER_02No, we're not the only ones here, bro.
SPEAKER_00No.
SPEAKER_02Look at how many trillions of stars there are, how many planets are around them. There the possibilities are just astronomical that life is everywhere out in the galaxy. But also that possibility means that they are thousands and thousands and thousands of years older than us. So their technology is way better. So they're going to be able to visit us before we do that. Yeah, we're like cavemen. And there's been something that I've been seeing. I'm not going to talk about that in the space. That's a little crazy. That's a little crazy.
SPEAKER_03So the next story here for you guys is uh Greenville, South Carolina. If you're there, uh Hall's Chop House. Man, sounds good to me.
SPEAKER_00I've been to the one in uh Char uh Charleston.
SPEAKER_03It's Hall's?
SPEAKER_00Yes. Fantastic.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, so that's the flagship, and then they brought this one to Greenville. Oh my lord, man, what an experience that is. So just so you know, before you go, they do have kind of a dress code. If not, you're gonna be send off to the side. Yeah, so you're gonna be sent off to the side. Uh but I felt a little pretentious, right? So I go in.
SPEAKER_00You were wearing that shirt? No, no.
SPEAKER_03They're like, well, come right in. Here's the Johnny Blue. No 18 year for this guy. Right. Like, oh man. So we go in and like I for me, when I go into a restaurant, like I I'll peep the the liquor selection and everything else. And uh go into the Weller 12 and the Pappy. I went up there and I seen it. And then if you know Pappy or you, you know, uh big fan of it, you'll know that uh Pappy23 will have a little ribbon at the top of the neck that you know that whenever you see it, it says 23. It kind of signifies like this is what it is. From a distance, right? Exactly.
SPEAKER_04So you can see it from like afar.
SPEAKER_03If you know what you're looking for, you're gonna notice it right away. So I right off the bat, like I I've never tried it before, but that one right there was was gonna be it. So again, splurging. So as soon as we sit down, it's like, hey, do you know what you want to drink? And I was like, Pappy 23. Pappy 23, double knee.
SPEAKER_00Get me some of that 23.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, don't let ice touch it. A lot of people like ice, but I wanted to try it without it first.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you gotta try it neat first.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, so here's my thing. I love Halls, I will definitely go back there again. However, comma. He put it in the the little um what do you call it? Like the sniffer? The sniffer, right? The sniffer had Heaven Hill distillery on it.
SPEAKER_00Oh, you can't serve Happy on Heaven Hillary.
SPEAKER_03I that that's my only knock on that place. That's the only knock. The food, everything else, the service, uh, shout out to Jared.
SPEAKER_00They have great steaks, man. I'm telling you, you know what a steak they are. My son went uh to the Citadel, which is right there in Charleston, and we would go to Highcotton and then the uh Hull's Trop House, which are owned by the same the same owner, but he always so my son would always go out, he had to wear a uniform. I mean, anytime he wanted to go out, and we'd always go to Hall's Chop House, and we quickly realized that he took really good care of the Citadel cadets. And if he just showed up in uniform even without a reservation, he would always find room. And um, you know, never it never failed. Show up last minute and he'd be like, Yep, come right in. And if you want a steak, that is the place. But I quickly learned that when you go to halls, you need to ask what when it says marketplace, you might want to ask. Yeah. I got some Wagyu beef and I got a 12-ounce Wagyu beef steak and they they they priced it out by the ounce. They're like, We've never even seen that.
SPEAKER_04It's never been in double digits.
SPEAKER_00I couldn't finish the 12 ounces, and um I'm like, Well, how much is left? And it was probably about four or five ounces. Then I realized it was a hundred dollars an ounce. Oh I'll take a doggy bag. Yeah, that was the most I've ever paid for a steak. But I mean it was delicious, but oh man, it was delicious.
SPEAKER_03So I uh I chose the dry age ribeye.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, that's yeah.
SPEAKER_03Dry age ribeye, got the uh got it on a rare. Uh because and this is why I say that Hall's is great, and that's my only knock on them, is you put it in a Heaven Hill distillery sniffer. Uh, because when I asked him, I was like, hey, I want the uh can I get the dry age ribeye rare? And he goes, Well, listen, the chef and everyone else has said that if you want that uh that specific Rebbeye, it's better if you get it uh like a warm rare, you know. So I was like, okay, I'll I'll I'll take your word on it. And then you know, the chef's choice on marbling because you have that choice. If you want more or less marbling, they give you that option. Awesome, awesome. I've never had a steakhouse that uh like we'll break that down for you.
SPEAKER_04So there's like a consultation period.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, so they do the whole display where they have like all their available steaks and everything else. Yeah, for sure. So I got that man, that steak, that right there was worth it. And same thing, like I I didn't really ask the price, I was just like I saw the presentation number.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you were sold on the presentation.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah, for sure. But yeah, man, what a what a what a meal that was. If you have to ask, you can't afford it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I guess that's the point. Don't ask if you know if you go to a place of like of that caliber, you know.
SPEAKER_04Well, it's like not really not that I find myself find find myself in places like that often, but it's like eventually, like if you go into like a quality spot, you can't the the penny pension has to subs subside. Right. You know what I mean? It's like it's a nice place.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I mean I would go to a restaurant to that caliber, like it was an event. You know, you go there more just for sure. The event of going plus the food is obviously a bonus and the drinks are a bonus, but going to a a restaurant of that level is is an event in its own right.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's not like a Tuesday night dinner like hey, where are we going that?
SPEAKER_00I'm not doing that two or three nights a week. Absolutely not. No, it was you know, it was always on a celebratory, you know. My son was doing something.
SPEAKER_03No, it's not some easy feat. Yeah, that's a pretty prestigious school to graduate from and then continue on with your military career. That's that's awesome. Exactly.
SPEAKER_00Shout out to my son who just promoted yesterday. So he's now first lieutenant. I did see that. So saw your post. Yeah, he's got a uh congrats his new platoon. So he's the platoon commander down there in uh in Lejeune and doing and on on to bigger and better things. Is he here for a while now? Yeah, he should be here. He's um it's gonna go right in front of the camera. His uh main duty station is Lejeune, but they do deploy a lot and stuff. So I do think he's traveling uh sooner rather than later. Yeah. So but that's part of the business. Given part of the business as well, too. I mean, he's young and he's single, so he's perks of the job. He he's uh all about trying to get as much under his belt as far as like you know, the you know, like a deployment under a uh a belt for a second lieutenant is very important for his career. Yeah, uh, you know, now you've seen things, done things, uh and he went right away was like uh that was the best thing to do.
SPEAKER_02Remember I said that. Yeah, I was like, trust me, dude, this is gonna be a good thing. And it's been a great thing.
SPEAKER_00He definitely has more a little more clout because he's got a deployment under his belt. Yeah, you've done that, been there, done that. Yeah, so yeah, definitely a respect thing.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, for sure. And in in these day and age, like we're we're winding down all the other deployments, and then for you to be able to actually jump onto something like that, yeah. That's you definitely want to.
SPEAKER_00There's a lot of a lot of Marines that do their career that never deployed. Yeah, for sure. So yeah, it's just not like you know, when you and I never progress.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, when you and I were in, like it was it was a dime or dozen. It was not like if it was when.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, everybody deployed. If you saw somebody who never deployed, you're like, pogue, is wrong with you? That's all right. Sorry, yeah. But yeah, that's pretty good.
SPEAKER_00Sorry to all those pogues out there. I didn't mean to research. Hey, I'm a pogue.
SPEAKER_03I'm a pogue, man. Yeah, I was excited to see him actually get out there and do the job, and then now he's back.
SPEAKER_00So you know, it was you know, I I still look at my son as a little kid, you know. I mean, he and uh seeing him out front and introducing himself to all his Marines out there and uh giving a proud dad moment, yeah, like as a leader. His uh major gave him a big shout out and you know, said how much of a good how how great of a job he did when he was overseas and held himself and did the job well. And you can see the respect. Um you know, I I feel like the Marines that he's gonna lead will have more respect for him because he's been there, done that kind of thing, you know. I mean, obviously still young.
SPEAKER_03Come on in.
SPEAKER_02I don't know. Stage frame stage frame, yeah. Stage frame. He's like, well, people see the setup and they're like, uh why is that guy holding a pillow in front of his face? And then they back out slowly. We're like, dude, it's a cigar shop.
SPEAKER_03We've said it in many other episodes. It's like we're just a bunch of dudes that just put these conversations for, and then we just finally had to put in a camera and a microphone. This is what it's for.
SPEAKER_02It's for it's not sponsored. It's for people to walk through.
SPEAKER_00I think it's the pillow in front of your face that probably scared them off. No, I it has to be here.
SPEAKER_02I if I don't, I can't see a thing. I don't, I can't see anything. I'm just like I look forward to this clip.
SPEAKER_04We can still hear you though.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's good.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I feel like I'm like playing the dating game, like um, contestant number three. Yeah, but you have the sun fully on you still.
SPEAKER_02You remember how I was telling you guys that this was gonna be a problem for this episode? Yeah, I was like, yeah, it's gonna be a big problem, and here it is, a problem. George is like, no, the clouds, man, the clouds are coming. I was like, George, trust me, if the sun can find a way to fuck me, it's gonna fuck me.
SPEAKER_01The clouds done.
SPEAKER_00But if I've given if I've been given the A-OK to add another screen, I'm all about it. Yeah, I'll get it done.
SPEAKER_02I mean so yes, that's what he asked me to do.
SPEAKER_00If he's giving me the green light, you can't sit and wait. You've got to get it done.
SPEAKER_02Measure it, yeah, and then we can just put it down halfway during a show, and then there's no problem.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and then if somebody wants to come in, they can duck under it. I mean, we can make it the retractable type that's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_03A show we're in general, like when we're out here.
SPEAKER_02In general, when it's when it's summer, and things coming right through there. Because we can crack that one. We can crack, you know, crack the bottoms, take the things out. But man, when that sun comes in, you know how we all inch and everybody's around here at the end of the night.
SPEAKER_00This seat can be pretty brutal too when the sun's at your back. That's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_02But in the dead of summer, when it's like 90 degrees out, everyone's on this side because the sun is right. This thing should have been put on that side.
SPEAKER_03Well, listen, that's a touchy subject because it is.
SPEAKER_02Solange was like, You didn't have a woman there to tell him. I was like, No, no, no. We had him agree already. It was agreeable. Everybody agreed that it should be on that side. We all knew where it should be.
SPEAKER_03So prior to installation, I had this like tough conversation where we went back and forth. I was like, that this is why. He goes, Okay, that's fine.
SPEAKER_00And then when you weren't here when I wasn't here, it's all your fault.
SPEAKER_03Yes, it is.
SPEAKER_00He was like, I am so. I blame you. But while you're here, we didn't expect a lot of the things that we've been talking about around the table.
SPEAKER_02Guess what else he agreed to?
SPEAKER_00Uh-oh. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You know those two back rooms? The back room. Knocking down the wall. Okay. Big ass back room.
SPEAKER_03This is another thing I talked to him about is um we're gonna bring in some stand-in humidors, right? So this is big. If you guys are yeah, he tried to call me as well.
SPEAKER_02So I answer, yeah. I'll answer, but you guys keep going.
SPEAKER_03Okay, so I got him to agree to stand-in humidors, right? And I also am gonna bring in a single uh small humidor. And that's gonna be George's uh cigars only, right? So, you know, it's LED lit, it's gonna be just a beautiful, beautiful uh humidor. And we're also gonna, you know, talk with uh, you know, our guys at the at the farm and see if we can't bring in a couple more of George's uh house blends. So we're gonna go out there and sample a couple of recipes and see if we can. Oh, like get some new stock. Yeah, yeah. Very nice. So he here recently he's uh he's brought in full-time the Lanceros and the Maestro. Nice, which is your box press that has the Connecticut wrapper on it. So we want to look at maybe bringing in more, but we're gonna we're gonna little modernize the shop a little bit, if you will, like while I'm home. So yeah, and when when that happens is you know, when you're gonna be able to get away.
SPEAKER_00He definitely goes off a lot of your word, you know. I mean, yeah he trusts what you have to say and your knowledge.
SPEAKER_03And yeah, I appreciate that uh about George. So once I brought that to him, uh, you know, he's he's older, so he he's changes a little rough for him. But when I brought that in, I was like, listen, if we do these humidors, we can add more cigars and the presentation of your cigar proper yeah as hell.
SPEAKER_04So it's it looks like the elite thing in here. Exactly.
SPEAKER_00It's not just stuffed in a corner, yeah. Right. So we are we obviously know that his his cigars are one of the top sellers in the world. Yeah, for sure. So why not feature it? Yeah, you know, put it on display.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, so like I said, an LED lit humidor is definitely gonna set his uh cigar off. And people like once they try it, I think they're really gonna enjoy it.
SPEAKER_00And it's a good smoke, it's not like we're just right.
SPEAKER_04You're not just trying to be like, let's sell what I make the most money or whatever.
SPEAKER_00Right, but it I mean it's a quality smoke that that you know holds up to some of the top the brands, and yeah, yeah, it would not be on the podcast like this is so good.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, give me the den. I'll just take a zin.
SPEAKER_03Like what kind of what flavor of uh hookah or like Lee?
SPEAKER_04Did you bring your pipe today? Like I'd rather smoke.
SPEAKER_00I'll just get a Mountain Dew, please. The one in the back.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. The oldest one you got. Yeah, so that's something if it was like that and it's not, you know what I mean? It's actually quality, it's good. So and it would be nice to just have something that totally hides it, like a lit humidor, like it is Georgia Cigar Shop, so why not put the emphasis on his brand? Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Ah. Who is that?
SPEAKER_04Georgia.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So that's that's some of the upgrades we're gonna work with. Uh with that comes its own feats because you know, uh change is tough for older people, you know. Not to mention the logistics aspects of it is when when you bring in some like equipment that size, you have to it comes in a tractor trailer. So with they gotta get down here. Right.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, this downtown area is not really conducive to tractor trailers.
SPEAKER_03No, it's not. So we gotta figure out like one, order the humidors, and then two, figure out how to get them from the curb that is down a hill ending in a house from X year. Exactly. Exactly.
SPEAKER_00Like, so we don't have cargo doors to load it through, you know. Yeah. So that'll that'll be all up a ramp or up that scary set of stairs over there.
SPEAKER_04It's a reference to last episode. We don't have any um forkliftable doorways to, you know.
SPEAKER_02But I'll tell you that that wall down thing is a good idea. I think we can have a freaking awesome back room.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's a game changer.
SPEAKER_02Because you can still play poker back there, you can still do all the fun stuff.
SPEAKER_00But if you can get more than five or six people in there and they're not sitting on top of each other, I mean, because a lot of times in the summer it gets too hot and then vice versa. Or smoke. Or yeah, too smoky if you have better ventilation and more people can enjoy it.
SPEAKER_02And then we and then we can always put on each end on each window, we got the fans and the windows, so that room would really never get too smoky.
SPEAKER_03You know, once you start construction like that, I mean it it's nothing much though to throw, you know, a ventilation fan up there as well. Maybe a rabbit air on the wall or something. Yeah, yeah. So I'm saying there's there's some plans and put in place for Georgia's guards.
SPEAKER_02So let's see what I think the first thing we need the shade. The second thing we need that, so we can do the back room.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, well, and beyond the shade thing.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, so start, yeah, let's start looking for stuff.
SPEAKER_03And if you it's a low I did a Lowe's run and uh dropped some crazy money. Some bands. Yeah. You need to let me know. I'm letting it.
SPEAKER_02If you're if you're doing another purchase, I might need a water heater like in the next day or two. I'm on it, let me know, and I'll I need to buy one.
SPEAKER_04Ed is concierge key of Lowe's.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and I need to get a new stove because my stove, you could put it on six, and if you're not watching your food on the stove, it goes up to eight. All right.
SPEAKER_00So now's the time to switch to gas.
SPEAKER_03Well, like, gas rains and my gas.
SPEAKER_00I'm telling you, once you when you switch to a gas going back, it is a game changer.
SPEAKER_02Don't you have to have gas though?
SPEAKER_00If you can't get it, he has gas to the house. He's got a gas fireplace.
SPEAKER_03Uh no, it's just it's electric.
SPEAKER_02So I have a gas fireplace too, but it's not that's the one hookup for a propane tank.
SPEAKER_03You're on a crawl space, right? No, slab. Yeah, so I'd have that extrair um tank. Like a hole or something like that. And then even then, it's tough to get to because you'd have to go through my gate and around the backside to fill it.
SPEAKER_04So hey, everybody can have a payment. You know, get all that money while you're seeing outside.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that's that's something I've been avoiding for a little bit is uh a new vehicle. That one's fine, it sits in the driveway most of the time. You have a new vehicle, dude. Are you kidding me? It's newer.
SPEAKER_02Oh, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry. Yeah, newer. I have a 2010. What's yours?
SPEAKER_03It's 2020, it's good. Yeah, same thing.
SPEAKER_0210 years.
SPEAKER_04All right, let me go park my 2020 frontier next to your 2020 GMC, and we'll be like, what's what's which one's really from 2020 here?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I mean, you haven't even broke yours in yet. What are you at? 50,000 miles?
SPEAKER_03No, no. I uh I've taken it up to Massachusetts. I had a golf tournament up there with my buddies. Oh, you've taken trips. You took it on the bourbon trail? Yeah, bourbon trail a couple times. So it it's at like 70,000 right now. So it's all washed up.
SPEAKER_02Were you looking at trading then already?
SPEAKER_03No, I mean that thing's like got hub caps falling off now. Well, I I I seen that the the newer GMCs are having some trouble with like um some transmission or engine issues, so you know GMs having to do some recalls with that. So I'm not ready to until that gets settled. What I even look at for us.
SPEAKER_00But the new ones have self-drive, which is kind of nice. Oh, yeah. I'm gonna tell you, uh we just we just brought an electric vehicle in the family, and the self-drive feature is money well spent.
SPEAKER_03I mean, mine has the uh lane departure that I will assist you.
SPEAKER_02But dude, there ain't nothing like something that just takes you somewhere. You know, I drove to Raleigh the uh I want to try that out, but I'm scared of it because you have the the screen that you can watch Netflix and stuff.
SPEAKER_00But but if you if you're not paying attention, it'll tell you, hey, look, you do pay attention to the phone.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, like if you if you're not looking forward for like 10 seconds or something, it'll be beep, beep, beep, beep, beep. And you look back. Remember the the dude told you to do that. And it'll shut you off. Now, will yours you can summon yours?
SPEAKER_00Uh I can summon it. If it's in a parking lot, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Like if you're in Walmart and it's raining, you can be like come up to the door.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I got a remote control feature on the on the phone, it'll bring it right to the can you can you let's say you get to Walmart or whatever store, can you get out and say go park?
SPEAKER_00I haven't I have I I believe it will do that, but I have not. Yeah, we haven't gone that far yet.
SPEAKER_02So we'll just I'd be nervous about that. I'd be nervous about that. It's got cameras all over it's a good thing. I will tell you somebody else.
SPEAKER_04Because my luck is like I'm gonna like door jam like a geo tracker and they have like nothing to lose, and I just wrecked my brand new self-driving vehicle.
SPEAKER_02Right, but if the technology works the way it should, then it shouldn't happen. And if the thing has cameras all over it, then whatever happened is gonna be recorded and it records everything. So if it's not the car's fault, which I haven't heard a lot of it being the car's fault. Right.
SPEAKER_04Then it's like delete, delete, delete, delete.
SPEAKER_02Well, no, I'm talking about if you're telling it to park and telling it to come to you. I haven't heard any reports of it of it screwing up in that way.
SPEAKER_03No, no, it's pretty safe. I don't know. I'd still be nervous about it. Is it burning up?
SPEAKER_04No.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_04I'm just making sure that the cushion wasn't hitting it. What are we at? Uh 50. Nice. So one time I was at um not to be dark, the location's not important. I was at a funeral anyway.
SPEAKER_00I was outside and it wasn't in the right ahead to bring the mood down.
SPEAKER_04That's what's in my head seeing it. So we went outside to smoke a cigarette because that's you know, it was kind of a heavy moment. So we're just like, let's go smoke a cigarette. Let's ride. Let's where we had to go was like parked right next to a Tesla. And we get next to the Tesla, we're open the doors, we're all talking, it's like four or five of us, and we shut the door and we see like the screen in the Tesla. Light up and it's like recording on. So it's like recording the audio around the vehicle. So it's like, hey, we should break into this. This, you know what I mean? Like that would be on recording if someone said that.
SPEAKER_00I get a message when somebody's too close to my car.
SPEAKER_04Like if you park a lot in the proximity of like someone's next to your car.
SPEAKER_02Somebody was saying that they park next to next to Tesla's on purpose just in case anything happens to their car. Because you know there's cameras on the code. That's actually smart. It is. It is. But then how are you going to find that Tesla to be like, yo, somebody hit my car?
SPEAKER_04Just take a picture of their license plate. It's on the cloud.
SPEAKER_02It's on the it's up there.
SPEAKER_00I will tell you that so our first trip to Raleigh, my wife took the car to Raleigh and back. And um the the having to charge at various you know various po points of your trip is a learning curve. You know, um well you gotta plot that out. You're right. And you know, we've only had it for 10 days and we're still figuring that stuff out.
SPEAKER_02What was the ease of pulling up and actually hooking up and doing it like we know how to do that?
SPEAKER_00Does it cost money? It does cost money. Um $14 for a full charge at a supercharger. And it's quick. So I was down in Myrtle Beach um golfing, and I had my phone sent me a notification hey, your car's at 30 miles, it needs to be charged, and then I could follow my where my wife went, and um, it tells you where the superchargers are and stuff. And once you plug into a supercharger, it it's actually insane on how fast it charges.
SPEAKER_04I mean, literally are there non-superchargers? Are there regular chargers?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, those are two to three hours for a full charge. A supercharger is 15, 20 minutes. Oh, and you're back on the road.
SPEAKER_02You don't have that at your house, right? The regular. Because you don't need it at your house. I don't know. No, okay.
SPEAKER_04Can you get a supercharger installed in your home?
SPEAKER_02The thing you don't you reason you don't need it is what he said is they they do this uh study where they find out where the electricity uses the uh where the least amount of electricity is used is about like 11 o'clock at night. So it you can schedule for it to start and you can speak better on this than I'm gonna do.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, mine will you know, kick on at 11 30, 12 o'clock when your electric rates are the lowest. And it'll charge.
SPEAKER_04So you're not just destroying your power bill.
SPEAKER_00I know, and I I haven't got my first power bill yet now that we've been charging, so but people that I've talked to and stuff, it it's like plugging another refrigerator in at your house. I mean it's minimal car got a hundred it was a hundred dollars a week to fill up. So the savings that's seeing is is far better than it's comparable. Right. You know, you know, you don't have your maintenance is low, you're not you know, changing oil. What's the uh make and model again? It's a model Y. So then Tesla? Tesla. The next thing I got to do is it's like the hatchback kind of VE looking.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, now you need to convert all of your uh Bloomin trucks and candy trucks to Teslas so that you can just send them out on jobs and stuff.
SPEAKER_00You know, and I I'm not gonna lie, I mean, gas hit four dollars and nineteen cents a gallon today, and I'm kind of like, oh yeah, you know.
SPEAKER_02That's because of Dakota. He was over there freaking fucking shit.
SPEAKER_04I will tell you this right now. We me and my brother-in-law just went to go pick up a bed for our spare bedroom on Friday before I left to go to the concert. And bro, we came back through Swansboro at that Exxon right there by the holiday inn. Yep. Shit said 450, bro, Friday morning. 450 for regular. I was like, there ain't no way, bro. I spent 800. I think it went immediately back down after that, but it peaked right there on that one, 450.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. That's a 2010 F-150, $88 to fill up from nothing to something.
SPEAKER_03Mine was a little bit under a quarter tank, and it cost like 90. Yeah, for you.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03That was rough.
SPEAKER_02Yours isn't diesel though, right? No. Okay, but how what how many gallons is your tank? 26. Okay, I think that's like 23 or something, 24 or something.
SPEAKER_04I don't need nowhere near that.
SPEAKER_02Dude, it it's and then you guys with these boats. How's that working out?
SPEAKER_00That's the real bill. Kind of glad I don't have the charter business right now. Yeah, like seriously. I don't want to go up. You know, here's a good thing that not a good thing, but um, it'll be interesting to see. Obviously, we have a big event coming up in um Carter County. It's one of the biggest events of the year, which is you know, the uh the Big Rock fishing tournament. Yeah, big rock. So it'll be interesting to see. We've had a lot of success in the last few years with it growing just exponentially. I mean, it's year after year. Yeah, you know, now it's the Super Bowl of an event to our area. Michael Jordan comes every year. Oh, yeah. Every time, yeah. But diesel is at five dollars plus a gallon, so it'll be interesting to see. I mean, is it gonna be a big one? Right. So then when you're fishing when you're fishing four days straight, you're burning.
SPEAKER_02So it's it's gonna become a rich person sport. It's it already been. It already has. It already is, but it's it's gonna eliminate anybody who had any hope of.
SPEAKER_04Like the one percent's gonna get gotten to a point five percent because of that.
SPEAKER_00When I I first fished the big rock in 2002, and it was uh, you know, maybe fifteen hundred a person, and you split it six ways. Yeah, you know, now the pot to get in it is thirty-five almost forty thousand dollars. Just to get in it.
SPEAKER_02Right, and these just to be standing on the boat and a person or a boat?
SPEAKER_00Per boat, and then you split that up. Normally uh still boat you can split it six ways, unless it's private. If you're a charter boat, you can only and then if you don't win anything, you just paid all that money for not. Have fun, catch a mahi. Go to the captain's party.
SPEAKER_02And then you can't even do anything with a mahi, can you? No, you can eat it.
SPEAKER_00You can eat it. Oh, you can't. Well, I thought you had to burn all your fish in there. That Mahi I bought or the wagyu beef I bought at Halls. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's that's crazy. He's like, you got one bite left. I'll take that. One I wanted to ask you two boat owners, though, especially you who just got back, and now your boat is like ready and pristine and like ready. Oh, yeah. And you who's just got your boat ready. Yes, it's and you have similar boats. You guys have like skiffs, you know, uh center consoles. Yeah, yeah, center consoles. Not I didn't mean like Carolina Skiff is a brand or whatever. But center bottom. Yeah, but but center console. So your V holes.
SPEAKER_03So he has a shallow V, a bay boat, and then I have a deep V.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So he can get all those.
SPEAKER_02I know you got a deep V. But you know the boating we all knew Dakota had a deep V.
SPEAKER_00Boating to me is a release, stress relief.
SPEAKER_02You know, and it's but how much is this going to affect your boating season this year? You're gonna just pay the I'm just gonna pay it.
SPEAKER_00I mean, it I get so much enjoyment out of the time that I spend on my boat that it's worth it. You know, you put a price on entertainment. I got you. Look at what you guys just spent going to the concert. You know, I mean, you could have listened to music on the radio for free, but you went to an event and it's your opportunity cost.
SPEAKER_02What am I willing to give up to have fun and do our things? And the cool thing about going on. You know how much we've spent on this show? I don't even want to say, like, between our equipment and shit. And we don't get anything from it, but enjoyment. Like we get enjoyment from this. Our friends are here.
SPEAKER_00It's tough to put a price on enjoyment. You don't get enjoyment.
SPEAKER_02I get enjoyment. I just get pissed a lot when the sun is in my face.
SPEAKER_00Or people are in the left lane. If you have the left lane, I'll be happy.
SPEAKER_02Well, we talk about this all the time, and like we have like a spreadsheet, like what we're spending on these apps that we're using and the equipment that we bought. It's like six grand that we've together spent on just this.
SPEAKER_04I thought I had to tell Danny, I was like, bro, I'm gonna need you to kick the 50 to me a month for the StreamYard. And it's like, it's not like I'm gonna have to. Just shoot it to me because it's like I'm I'm potentially.
SPEAKER_02Like, I love the show, but he's paying for a bunch of shit, I'm paying for a bunch of shit that we use to make the show happen.
SPEAKER_00But you know, you're in for the long haul. It's not a you're not doing the entertainment.
SPEAKER_02The opportunity cost is just that. We love what we're doing, we love this, it's fun.
SPEAKER_00It's no different than gas prices at $3 a gallon or $10 a gallon. That's why I re That's why I really see the investment in my entertainment and my peace of mind and my relaxation, you know. We're in such a a world of hurry up and go, and it's nice when I have a time to just relax, let go of it.
SPEAKER_04Be untethered, really. When you're out on the water, it's like, hey, I'm not even looking at my damn phone.
SPEAKER_00I don't live here for because I don't like the water. I mean, I purposefully lived moved here to do this, and I don't really care.
SPEAKER_02I went from boat to kayak, and uh I haven't had it out since the season's been good because I have a little demon that I have to take care of. No, I'm just kidding, baby. Uh but I do want to get out there on the water because we do, we live on the water, we do these things on the water and stuff like that. But I had a boat, I used to have a boat, and I understand exactly what you guys are talking about. Yeah, there's frustrations of having shit fixed and like having it taken care of correctly, right? Right.
SPEAKER_03But I'm telling you, there's something to say to be said is like when you're out there on that water, I mean, just the worries go away, everything's gone. Right.
SPEAKER_00You don't look about like you don't you're not checking emails, you're not worried about like is that bill paid 100%. You're just relaxed and you've let go. I mean it's so hard to do in front of the city. Mine became the opposite.
SPEAKER_02Mine became a stress, like fucking just a stress.
SPEAKER_00Because you're we remember boating when you had young kids and you had family, and you know, and that's good for some people, but you know, my kids have all moved away, and now it's my wife my wife works hard um seven days a week, and she looks forward to that time on the boat to just decompress. So it's awesome for that. How do I say, well, I'm not gonna spend twenty dollars extra to fill the boat up? I'm gonna look at it.
SPEAKER_02No, and you're right, and when you look at it, you're like, yeah, okay, it's really only this much more.
SPEAKER_00So maybe we won't drive all the way to Wilmington to get a steak. Maybe we'll just say local, you know, yeah, just be a little more conservative with it or whatever.
SPEAKER_03I mean, so Ed and I, we've we've got on his boat, we've gone down to Sir City, uh, Sears Landing. Yeah. Sears Landing, you pull up on the dock, go up there to the restaurant, get a good drink, and the meals are great. You know, it takes you like an hour or so.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and it's the best time on the water. I mean, yeah, it's cold is you listen to the music, smoking a cigar. Hello, yeah. Yeah, girls sit in the front on the bow and just have a good time. And I'm not gonna take that away from them, you know, or take it away from myself, or take it away from No, but like, can we get some better gas prices, please? Yes, I mean Oh yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_03But don't get wrong, yeah. Like you think about it, but then the well you have to have that.
SPEAKER_02Um look, I'm willing to do this, and even if something makes it so I'm not willing to fly right now because it's $200 an hour to fly.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_02That's too much. It's just like unless I have two or three other if I have two other guys in the plane and we're going down to Myrtle Beach and we split the cost of it, that's that's one thing.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_02But if I'm going up just to fly around to get my hours and stuff and I'm paying $200 an hour, that's just too much.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I mean that makes sense. But like for us to jump on a boat, I mean, we're not burning that's different. Right.
SPEAKER_00Nearly $200 an hour.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and we're going up to to Beaufort and hitting all those waterfront restaurants. Yeah. So you go up there.
SPEAKER_02Did you ever go to Moorhead and go to like Jax or anything like that?
SPEAKER_03No, so well, I mean, I haven't been to Jax.
SPEAKER_02Because we played Jax as a band, and we always see these boats, these badass boats that come up, and we're always like, when I play, I turn around and I'm watching the boats, and I'm like looking at them, they're looking at me, I'm like, hey, what's up?
SPEAKER_00My favorite go-to is either going to Sears Landing um down Surf City or going to Beaufort. Um there's a restaurant in Beaufort. Uh, Moonrakers is right there. It's the bomb.
SPEAKER_04Rooftop bar on Moonrakers is nice. Right.
SPEAKER_00And watching the horses, and mind you stay a hundred feet away from the horses, so they'll post your pictures all over social media. So I we watch them from afar.
SPEAKER_02But I mean it's such a shit. What are you gonna do run away?
SPEAKER_00I know. I've had them walk right through uh when we've been camping out at uh you know uh You're talking about Shacklet. Shacks, yeah. Yeah, I mean, what do you do? Run away if they walk through your campsite, right? It's like a snake, just don't move.
SPEAKER_02Well, it's like the sea turtles, you're not supposed to be close to them, but we would scuba dive in Hawaii and there'd be a sea turtle right there, like I'm trying to swim away, but he's coming at me. Like, hey, he's curious. Hey, dude. For real, bro. But they just dude you and they just go away. So just you don't touch them and they just go away. Right. But I wanted to say something too. You you talked about how great it was to be on the water. I don't have a boat anymore, but I have a kayak. How good is it on a on a on a morning when you're just in some like back stream on a kayak drinking your coffee with your with your meta ray bands on, listening to a podcast. We get coffee.
SPEAKER_04You just lost me. You know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_02Like, I a kayak, bro. You guys are talking about these big I'm rich, these two are rich.
SPEAKER_04I have a boat, I just need a motor for it, it's 12 feet long.
SPEAKER_02No, but I'm saying like how peaceful it is in these back, like on the queen. Oh I launch, I launch at uh Hammock's Beach, you go right to the Queen's Creek in these in these little fucking and I'm just like I don't care if I catch anything because I don't I don't catch anything.
SPEAKER_03Well that's what's it like that's what we're saying is like the the peace that you get out of that. I mean, the gas prices irrelevant at that point.
SPEAKER_02Well, but there's but what I'm saying is this doesn't have those prices. Yeah, I mean But the the serenity is just so Yeah, but you're you're pedaling and he and I are just like pushing the throttle.
SPEAKER_03No, you're right. They're just getting up on planes.
SPEAKER_02You're right, and I love boats. You're I love other people's. Other people's boats.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, exactly. In the evening when it when the you know, I mean we we obviously get a lot of wind around here, but in the evening when um she gets out of work, that's the great thing about summertime. It doesn't get dark around, right? And we'll put that thing in gear. I won't go faster than touch it, and we'll just idle around, have a cocktail, yeah, and just enjoy the sunset and stuff like that. I I didn't burn, but maybe a gallon of gas, two gallons at most, you know. And then and I got, like you said, peace of mind and and we do live in the perfect place for that, dude.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah, we really do. The boating season, yeah. Like, because especially everyone at this table can go to the base and and launch if you wanted to. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Except me.
SPEAKER_02Well, you can come with us. So, like a got shock marina. Nicole can take a trip. I used to take it to Got Shock and go out from there, and I was like, dude, this is the coolest freaking spot. And there's these sailboat classes that are happening, and like, you know, I love it.
SPEAKER_03You got to be careful in that water because it is it's pretty shallow. So my boat being at a deeper V, I need a little bit more water to be able to get out there. Yeah, you can't run in skinny water and I'm gonna go.
SPEAKER_02Mine was a pontoon, so I could be in like six inches if I needed to.
SPEAKER_03I mean, he can run in your bathtub.
SPEAKER_02So well, but the problem I ran into when I had my boat that could go into six inches is every time I'm out here in the freaking giggity. When I'm out here, anywhere around there, you can run into the most shallow shit ever right away. Right. So I would go slow everywhere.
SPEAKER_00Forgiveness out here.
SPEAKER_02There's none. So I go slow everywhere I'm at because it's like, oh, I'm in two inches of water and I gotta back out. I don't know. I'm following the markers, you know, I'm following the the shit, but it moves.
SPEAKER_03I mean it's a moving shoal. You say if you don't know the channels, so Ed could tell you is the same as I can is like your first first like week out there on the water is you're going out there and remapping what you learned last year. Right, right. Because you know, hurricanes come in, they change the uh the water up. So like when I drop mine in for the first time, I'm gonna do the same thing. I'm gonna go to the areas where I knew they were uh a little bit skinny, and I'm I just want to make sure that I still have enough water to to drive my boat in. So yeah, you just gotta do that.
SPEAKER_02How much water do you need with your D V?
SPEAKER_03I don't like being anything less than two feet. I can get by in like 18 inches of water.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but you want there to be yeah, you want there to be more. So at the bridge it's like 23 feet, right? Right. But then as soon as you get you know to the right or left of that, it's like six inches. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_00If you're going out for the first time, I always say the best time to do it is do it at low tide because that's gonna be at your yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_02You know, if you go out at high tide, well that's when you'll figure out where I can go and I can't go.
SPEAKER_00If I can go here at low tide, I can go there pretty much any tide.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And so Frank, I think when he because he goes out uh kayak fishing uh during the season and stuff. He's doing beach fishing right now, but you know, he drives on the beach and just beach fishes. This dude fishes more than any.
SPEAKER_00It just shut the I he can't go on the beach, I think driving on the beach.
SPEAKER_02So last week, yeah, the last week ended. So, but now he'll start taking his kayak out. But he knows where to go and he knows what to do, and it's like, yeah, where are you going? What are you doing? You know, it's like where can I find fish at? You know, so and nobody wants to tell you. Well, but around this table, everybody wants to tell you. Like, go up here, go up 50. Captain Joe is always talking about going up 58. There's a spot to launch a kayak up there where you can catch reds all day, red drum, you know, trout, all this kind of shit.
SPEAKER_03Oh man, you get some bull red over uh some risotto.
SPEAKER_02But you can only have one red drum though, right?
SPEAKER_03One per person.
SPEAKER_02But that's all you all you need if it's a good size red drum. Yeah. But I don't I go casting. I really don't go fishing, I go casting.
SPEAKER_04Well, that's why they don't call it catching.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, exactly. I go casting. What do you do? You catch fish on your kayak.
SPEAKER_04I have.
SPEAKER_02You have. He sends me pictures of his uh on kayak. We're like, when are you going out? Like fishing. Yeah, but we have so many people around this table that have kayaks, we need to go out. Here's what I've been trying to plan. Everybody the kayak. You put all your shit on your kayak, we're gonna go out to to Bear Island and camp. You guys with boats do the same, but you have boats. Y'all bring the grills. So if we need to bring so if we needed to get back real quick, we got a boat or two. You know what I mean? But if if we just need to be there and hang out and we can't just talk about it, we actually have to go. We do a lot of talking around the street. Are we there? I'll do it. Are you are you gonna do it? 100%.
SPEAKER_03I'm down for it.
SPEAKER_02Camping it, we get tents, we camp at Bear Island, drinking, fishing, stuff like that. They've done some uh renovations out there, right? Yeah, yeah. They they just redid all their camping sites and all that kind of thing. That's a nice. Yeah, but I heard there's a lot of flies and mosquitoes and stuff, which are we gonna have which we we can have those little things that you make flying, you know.
SPEAKER_00Come on, or mosquito dope.
SPEAKER_02I'm down, dude. If everybody's down, I'm down. We've been trying to do this. Have we not been talking about this for a long time?
SPEAKER_04I'm down, bro.
SPEAKER_02Dude, it would be it'd be it'd be not as cool as the trip that Carl takes you on, but it'd be our new adventure. It'd be our it would be the start to a new adventure that we would probably do every year. Yeah. That's all I'm saying. How am I there? We went out there camping, dude, shenanigans all night long. It would be just chibacha. Albert and Guitar will sing some stuff. Kumbaya around the campfire. It'd be great. Do you know how to play? Uh dabble. Yeah, okay. I dabble. Everyone's gonna have a hobby. I used to know how to dabble. I think it'd be fun, though. Guitars. But that's that's the difference. So I loved having a boat, except nobody after a while.
SPEAKER_00Was it two? Two best times in your life. When you buy and you sell it.
SPEAKER_02And I I fought against that. My dad told me that. I fought against it, but they were they were the two best days of my life.
SPEAKER_00When I sold my charter boat, I I can't say that I didn't uh applaud the. Yeah, like how great was that when you got rid of it?
SPEAKER_04You're just watching it drive away, and you're like, But when you buy it, you're like, oh, I got this. I know. It's just yeah.
SPEAKER_02It just doesn't matter.
SPEAKER_04That boat was beautiful.
SPEAKER_02But boats, man, but boats. They are expensive. They're expensive, man.
SPEAKER_04Break out another thousand. That's it.
SPEAKER_02So we need some sponsors. So if you want to sponsor our uh our kayak trip. We want to have more boats and more kayaks and do a trip and all that kind of stuff.
SPEAKER_00Well, you don't need to sponsor gas if you're on a kayak, so we're good there.
SPEAKER_02Boom. Boom, meaning boom.
SPEAKER_04Oh no. Boom to ed. But it is 210.
SPEAKER_02It is boom. Does anybody have another story they want to talk about? Because we're about to go.
SPEAKER_03Oh, we got another episode that's gonna be that's gonna be good. Oh, I can't wait to that. So this is the precursor to uh banner.
SPEAKER_02So, Roger, if you're listening, you are on the next episode with Dakota.
SPEAKER_03We gotta get we gotta get it out like so he can actually watch it.
SPEAKER_02And also, congratulations to Evan, who just got promoted to first lieutenant. And here we go. We're gonna do our takeaways. Love it. TK.
SPEAKER_04Welcome back, Dakota. Appreciate it. It's good to be back with you guys. It's crazy that we're basically Soul Brothers existing in the same place at the same time. Well, we were existing in the same place at the same time without knowing. It was awesome. You know, as always, thanks for having me. Good smoke. Thank you for the perdomo. I didn't smoke it specifically to take it back to the war, so just know that. It's a great smoke, by the way. I love it. Fantastic. Very good, very good. Thank you for the wellers and um man, good vibes. Glad you're back. And now it's time to do some chilling, brother. That's it. Yeah, that's good.
SPEAKER_00Well, appreciate you guys having me on the podcast. Uh, welcome back, Dakota. Happy to have my brother back. Safe and sound for now. And I appreciate the smoke and the good drink. Yeah. And uh last uh but not least, uh, stay out of the left lane if you're going slow.
SPEAKER_02I love that. I love you for saying that.
SPEAKER_03Dakota. Good thing about the boat, you don't have to worry about a left lane. You know, yeah, just go out and around. But uh no, my takeaway is it's good to be back with you guys and actually uh be on the show and uh not be watching it behind the screen and doing the comments, but surely still do that. But uh sir. Glad you guys had us. I'm uh glad we had uh good smoke, a good drink. Next week is gonna be a really, really good episode. You're gonna want to tune in and uh I'm gonna make sure uh we do some research and Do this next cigar proper justice uh because uh it's it's one of a kind for sure.
SPEAKER_02So well, I will also say welcome back, Dakota, and thank you for being on because I'll tell you what, man, this dude is always involved in the show, whether he's out protecting the world or he's here back at home, he uh he definitely is always commenting and is always present on the show. So we do appreciate that. And everybody, you know, write in what you if you like a certain cigar, if you like a certain uh drink that we've talked about, if you if you resonate with something we've spoken about, please comment. We we look at the comments, we just don't always comment back if we don't know to, unless it's trolling comments, which we like to comment back on. We love you, but we do love you. This is great. I love that Dakota's back. I love that uh what what are you pointing at here? Oh, it's almost done. Refire the beat. That's okay. That's okay. We're not that we don't have to refire it. Thank you. Good night.
SPEAKER_04No, no, do it again, do it again.
SPEAKER_03Okay, all right now keep going.
SPEAKER_02Thank you and good night.
SPEAKER_03Hey, we're gonna bring on some uh some good drinks. So if you're a bourbon connoisseur, tap in. Yes, sir. Yeah, why don't you say uh bourbon, you know. If you like a good scotch, you know, I gotta go to selection of uh even.
SPEAKER_02We haven't done ROM either.
SPEAKER_04My dad is a good good uh he likes some good Zakapa.
SPEAKER_02He likes I like Sailor Jerry. Wow. Yeah, with Coke.
SPEAKER_04You can find that at your local ABC.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I know, but I like with Coke. I know. I'm not sophisticated. You're gonna mix it.
SPEAKER_00Why spend the good stuff? You know, I'm not sophisticated.
SPEAKER_02You don't want to dilute the good stuff. Right, exactly. This is the Hot Ashes podcast. Thank you for listening. We'll see you next time. Goodbye.
